The name of "Kuala Lumpur" comes from its location on the meet point of Klang River and Gombak River. In Malays words, "kuala" means triangle, and "lumpur" is "mud". The area was developed after tin has been found in early 19th century. It became a political center during British colonial period and was selected as capital of the nation since indepedence in 1957.
As a capital, Kuala Lumpur has plenty important government buildings. Including the Parlimen, which is the symbol of democratic system in Malaysia. Once a time, the structure was used as a design on the back of Malaysian coins.
