Jerrold (Jerry) Scott Blocher
My big brother, Jerry was a very special person to me. We had our problems, what siblings don't, but we always got through them and came out closer in the end. Jerry was diagnosed with Juvenile Diabetes when he was 6 years old and that's what started his health on a down hill spiral. He ended up being diagnosed with both Addison's and Thyroid dieseases about 2 years ago. No matter what his health situation, Jerry didn't compalin to too many people. Everyone who knew him was amazed at how strong he seemed in spirit even though his body was weak. So many people have commented to us about how Jerry would always have a smile and a kind word to say to everyone he spoke with. And he always would have a joke to make to those he was closest to (he teased me more than anyone else!) No one in my life knew me as well as my big brother did, we had been through so much together.
You are listening to "For Whom The Bells Toll" by Metallica, one of Jerry's favorite bands.
Jerry loved heavy metal music ever since the 80's when we lived in France. We had gone to quite a few concerts together over the years, and he loved them all. We saw Kiss, Motley Crue, Bon Jovi and several other bands such as Poision and Cinderella. Jerry would love to really get into the mood when going to a concert and was not ashamed to get "dressed" for the occassion. Our mom did his makeup here for the last KISS concert we went to, I thought he looked awesome!!!!!

Along with his love of heavy metal music was his love for very LOUD music!!! We were always able to tell when Jerry was driving up to the house, or anywhere for that matter...... his music would be so loud you could hear him blocks away!!! And forget trying to call his cell phone (excuse me, Jerry, your wireless phone - he would always correct me on that one) while he was in the car, he'd have to lower the radio before you could talk to him!
Our family lived in France for three years and took every opportunity to travel around Europe as much as possible. Even after moving back to The States, we kept our love of traveling and history. Jerry loved to study about the Civil War and enjoyed going to Gettysburg. He and I also went to a Civil War Re-enactment, which we both loved!! I still talk about that today! In August 2000, we took a family trip to Scotland for a week. Little did we know it was to be our very last family vacation. We have plans to go back to Paris in July 2003, but we will have to make this trip without Jerry. Jerry would get very passionate about anything historical and we used to love to play war when we were younger.

Despite his poor health, Jerry was very good natured. He loved sports, especially the NY Mets and the NY Giants, as well as his heavy metal music and animals. Any one who knew Jerry at all would easily say these were his passions!!
Jerry loved animals. We had many family cats when we were younger, then we had a dog Avril when we moved to France. Jerry was very close to Avril and was devestated when we had to put her down about 2 years ago. He kept a picture of her with him in his wallet all the time. Next Jerry had a ferrett named Buddy who he really loved as well. He had to give Buddy away when he moved to an apartment where the landlord did not allow animals and was at the apartment a lot. Then Jerry moved to my (apartment before I sold it) and got a cat named Bubba. When he moved from my apartment after it sold, Jerry was temporarily staying at an extended stay hotel which did not allow animals at all. So Scott & I took Bubba in until Jerry found a new place to live. Needless to say, when Jerry passed away, Scott & I decided to keep Bubba as one of our own. We now have 4 cats!!!!! I am always talking to Bubba about his Daddy and keep reminding him how much his Daddy loved him!
Jerry and I both really loved our school in France, The American School of Paris (ASP). We had some of our best times there. Jerry went with ASP to Russia in April, 1987. That was one of the best times of his life!!! A few years ago, we went with my friend Allison to an ASP reunion held in NYC. Jerry was really looking forward to going back to France and visiting ASP again on our trip next July.
