Leidaria and Leafleth

Emerging from between, Leidaria directed her queen to land next to the two young women jumping up and down, waving violently in the Weyr bowl. Laughing out loud, she told Leafleth, "those two are my foster sisters and don't they look excited!"

Gold Leafleth

Finally, on the ground again at Jerdan Weyr for only the second time in her life, Leidaria was greeted by her two ecstatic foster-sisters.

"Leida! You did it!" Jani called out to her as she climbed down into a tight embrace. "We're so proud of you!" Kirina added as she too took a turn hugging Leidaria. When she was finally released, the new queen rider was able to introduce her dragon. "Jani, Kirina, this is Leafleth," she said as she rubbed the golden beasts eye-ridges. The two bowed respectfully to her before rushing on with their news.

"Carah was so sure you would impress that she had us fix up the other junior queen's quarters to get ready for you," Kirina announced. "Why don't you tell us about the impression while we walk there," Jani suggested, I've already had Gerigiath tell Leafleth where it is."

"Sounds good to me," Leidaria agreed as she began her story. "Jani was there when Weyrwoman Carah asked me to try to impress a dragon no one wanted at Gallimim Weyr so I agreed to try. On the way over, she revealed that the dragon was a queen! I was so nervous. I couldn't believe she thought I could do it. When we arrived, there she was, a beautiful golden queen, pitifully calling out to a girl whose back was to her and wouldn't even look in her direction. Both were crying. One wanted a life-mate and the other didn't. Carefully, I approached the pair, wary of the dangers, but eager to remedy the situation. Slowly I walked between them, facing the grief-stricken queen. I looked at her until she returned my gaze, and then it happened. I was no longer Leidaria, I was Leidaria, life-mate of Leafleth. She accepted me! The joy that flowed through me from her, I'll never be able to explain. When I turned to the waiting group who had gathered to watch, I announced her name. It was then I saw that the formerly chosen girl had disappeared. It didn't matter now, Leafleth and I were together."

Leidaria finished just as they reached her drowsy queen lounging on the ledge of her new weyr.

"That's so beautiful," Kirina said of the story, "I'll have to put it in the weyr records." "Come, Leida, we need to show you the rest of your quarters," Jani urged as she took Leida's arm to lead her into the cavern.
