English has eight parts of speech. They are:

The verb which describes an action.
The noun
which describes a person, place or thing.
The pronoun
which stands in for a noun which is not specified.
The adjective
which modifies a noun.
The adverb
which modifies a verb.  Normally ends in -ly.
The preposition
which joins a noun to an object. Prepositions include of, on, and in.
The conjunction which joins words, phrases or clauses together. Conjunctions include and, but and or.
The interjection which usually stands alone without any adjoining grammar.  Interjections often consist of a single word and end in an exclamation point.  Typically interjections are intended to express strong emotion, but can also consist of non-words like uh and der, and onomatopoeia like bang and crash.
