Two years ago, my only New Year's Resolution was "get a life". I lived way out on the edge of town, there wasn't a lot going on, I didn't have a lot of activities, and I was bored out of my wits. So I decided that I would take classes and learn to swing dance. I started classes at the Houston Swing Dance Society and had a lot of fun. After I had taken classes for a couple months, I decided to go dancing at Numbers, a night club that has "swing night" on Tuesdays. Rob had been taking classes at SSQQ, and also started going to Numbers.
I had met Rob at the dance, but it wasn't love at first sight. I thought he was nice, but... Well, eventually he asked me out - to go to lunch with him - and I agreed. Now I didn't really want to go to lunch with him. I was worried that it would be awkward because we both hung out at Numbers on Tuesdays, so what would happen if this dating stuff didn't go well? I was very anxious about this, but my co-worker Anne convinced me that just one lunch couldn't hurt, and that I should give this a chance.
We met for lunch on July 3rd, 2001, at the Amazon Grill. It went pretty well, we had a nice conversation (dancing isn't very conducive to good conversation). He was nice... so when he asked me to meet him for dinner before dancing on the next Tuesday, I said yes... and it just built from there (OK, it really built from the first kiss, but I'm not going to kiss and tell!)
His Story
I had been taking dance classes at SSQQ, but I was looking for more opportunities to get out and dance and they told us that on Tuesday nights there was swing dancing at Numbers. There were a lot of people there that Ididn't know, a few that I had met before. And one of the first the people I danced with there was Jena. She was cute but distant. I finally asked her out to lunch, and she agreed. Lunch seemed to go well and I thought Jena was an interesting person, i laughed, i had a good time. So we agreed to have a second date before she left town to help her mom move. I had to wait two long weeks for her return. After that we continued dating.
Our Story
Well, we confessed our love for each other over Thanksgiving 2001... and started talking about marriage in August of 2002, which takes us to The Engagement!
