Letter of Introduction
Thank you for taking the time to examine my web-site.  I appreciate all the opportunities that have allowed me to teach and grow in my teaching capabilities.  I always enjoy sharing some of these opportunities.  Please allow me to share a little about me personally, as well as some my teaching opportunities and characteristics that make my teaching style my own.

I have professional teaching experience in U.S. History, Honors U.S. History, World History, Geography, and World Studies.  Additionally, I routinely use Power Point, the Internet, Streaming Videos, pictures, and music.  Finally, I am a teacher that is heavily involved outside the classroom.  I am currently the Varsity Tennis coach for Mona Shores High School and have served in the capacity of home-bound tutor, Assistant Tennis coach, Chess coach, athletic event attendant, dance chaperone, Key Club sponsor, and participant in the execuation and design of a World History remediation program.  Simply put, I view myself as much more than a classroom teacher and am willing and interested in taking on additional responsibilities.

I am currently long-term substitute teaching at Mona Shores High School, teaching American History and World Studies.  My first years of teaching experience were outside of Michigan, in Arizona and Virginia.  I taught U.S. History and Honors U.S. History at Cibola High School in Yuma, Arizona; and Geography, Honors Geography, and World History at Kecoughtan High School in Hampton, Virginia.

My teaching experience has been diverse and rigorous.  At Cibola, a large majority of the student body was Hispanic, while at Kecoughtan close to half the student body was African American.  Cibola helped me refine communication and group-learning techniques, as many of my students were acquiring English as a second language.  Additionally, Kecoughtan helped me refine the use of precise standards of learning, as both Virginia and Hampton have high expectations in teaching with standards of learning.

My teaching philosophy incorporates this core belief:  the teacher should challenge and engage.  A quality teacher challenges students by setting high standards, breaking the students out of their comfort zone, and introducing them to new ideas.  A quality teacher must also engage the students and draw upon their world and their interests.  Without challenging the students, learning may become sentimental or boring; without engaging the students, learning may be a formal, unfocused shell.  Either way, the student suffers and learning is diminished.  It is my goal to incorporate both -- a teacher who challenges, a teacher who engages.  This is the educator I seek to be.

Again, thank you for taking the time to examine my web-site.  Please feel free to contact me by email (
[email protected]; [email protected]).  I would be happy to answer any questions or email a copy of my resume.

Sincerely,

Jeff Bush
