Once released, the infant instantly becomes a 5-year-old; the astonished Mifune, whose own child has recently died, decides to adopt the girl. Tales of Witch World 1

Book: By Andre Norton (02/15/1987)

Almost 25 years after Norton created her much-loved Witch World series, she has invited 16 other writers to use that background. Her own contribution, a typically darkly imagined fragment, is followed by Robert Bloch's droll rewriting of the same story from another character's point of view. The other colorful, clearly told stories include Wilanne Belden's moving account of a strange child's survival in war and wilderness, Charles de Lint's tale of a wondrous white road, Ardath Mayhar's narrative of a young boy coming to terms with his ``witch borne'' powers and Elizabeth Scarborough's fable of a warrior meeting a new challenge: a baby needing a foster mother. This collection is a welcome exception to the tedium of most shared-world anthologies. . (Minor Ar)

Tales to Astonish # 10

Comic Book: Vista Publications (Marvel): "What Was the Strange Power of Simon Drudd?!! " (July 1960)

The elderly Simon Drudd was a chemist trying to create a “youth serum”. Using all sources, from the legendary formulas of the ancients to the most modern medical findings, Drudd, and his assistant Bentley, struggled onward, despite the growing ridicule from colleagues and the public. One day, Drudd cried out in triumph that he finally had the correct chemical formula. Drudd ordered Bentley, at gunpoint, into the freezer. Drudd then revealed that he always intended to use the formula only on himself for his own selfish purposes; planning to take the serum every twenty years, he planned to become immortal. Drudd drank the serum, becoming younger and younger. From old man, to young man, to teenager, to boy, to infant, Drudd continued getting younger. The police arrived and freed Bentley from the freezer; going into the lab, they found an empty pile of clothes, the only thing remaining of Simon Drudd.

Comment: Speculation - Drudd’s “youth serum” may have been an unstable variant of the immortality elixir used by the evil alchemist Diablo, first mentioned in Fantastic Four # 30.

Tantrum

Book by Jules Feiffer, was published in 1979 or 1980.

Cover page

It is a graphic novel about a forty-something businessman with a wife and two teen aged children who, in response to the pressures of his life, spontaneously turns himself into a two-year-old. The darkly humorous book tells of the man-baby's misadventures, including a visit to a convention of regressed adults [!] and an encounter with the man's sister-in-law, who has her own ways of making herself shrink...

One online bookseller is listing this title in their list of the fifty top titles for July 1998! Perhaps the book is still in print.

Just an addendum to information you already list:

The cartoon book 'Tantrum' by Jules Feiffer was originally published in August 1979 by the Alfred A. Knopf Co. The cover on the original hard-cover is slightly different from the one you include, showing a screaming baby-size Leo (in his yellow jammies) running past the title letters.

Of lesser note, Feiffer did a dry-run of 'Tantrum' in his Sunday newspaper panel over a 6 week period in September and October 1978. The story centered entirely on what is the first and last chapters of the book. Most of the same jokes are repeated in the book, although in the newspaper version, Leo does get piggyback rides from his wife and teen son. The strip was most notably carried in New York's 'Village Voice,' but was distributed to other newspapers by the now defunct Publishers-Hall Syndicate.

Tatiana

Music Video: Brinca Album: [Mexico] "El Patio de Mi Casa" (1996)

Little girl wanders into poor but happy neighborhood. The girl is shy at first, but Tatiana beckons her into joining them. The girl's mother bursts in and yells at her. That night Tatiana takes her back to the neighborhood. Everyone is in colorful costumes now, the place is brightly lit, and the people are all singing and dancing wildly. The girl's parents have followed and are soon yelling. Tatiana comes up to Mom and peels off the star, revealing a smile on Mom's face instead of the anger she had just seconds earlier. At the end, they all hold hands and the mother is transformed into a little girl too. This seems to be the actual theme, that adults ought to become kids again in order to think like them and have fun with them. Tatiana's own image is sort of that of a kid who never really grew up (her earlier "adult" albums notwithstanding). (AR)

Teach Me How to Cry A.K.A. The Restless Years

Movie: (1957)

In that first role, Sandra Dee was shown aging from 12 to 18.

Tears of Astalis AKA "Cosmo Police Justy", The

Manga Comic Book:

(excellent AP scene, CB) Tsuguo Okazaki, Viz. A convict’s young daughter watches as Justy vaporizes her father. Justy was not expecting to hear him cry out for his daughter with his last thought. The pain on Justy’s face is evidence that he fully comprehends what he has done to this little girl. Astalis declares, “Someday I’ll grow up and be as strong as daddy, and then I promise I’ll kill you! Yes, I’ll kill you!” An old woman wants the reward for Astalis. She locks the little girl in a windowless room by herself. Then, in one big “UUURRRPP” she begins to change, growing into a young woman. However, the expression on her face, and that badly done sound effect, give the impression that she is shocked at a massive burp she has just released. It’s quite funny. This is followed by the demon-possessed look as her body triples in size and grows breasts and she nearly rips out of her child’s clothing. The noise caused by this sudden growth spurt draws the old woman back to the room where she finds a young woman in the place of the child she locked in there. Astalis escapes and wanders a desolate town on Doon in some ill-fitting clothes. She now has the body of a woman, but her mind is still that of a child’s. This becomes especially evident when she stumbles across a little boy who has some food; they exchange a series of looks that, one child to another, they both understood, and he agrees to give her just a little, much to her delight.

A creepy man grabs her arm. Astalis uses her powers to protect herself. We as the reader are simply wondering how she manages to stay in those clothes, which after her encounter with the "bad men" leave her right breast hanging completely out. Her child’s mentality and thirst for revenge keep her from noticing or caring that her clothing is falling off of her now-developed body. Astalis explains she made herself older and stronger for her dad so she can kill Justy.

The Thirteenth House

Book: by Sharon Shinn (2003)

Kirra Danalustrous was born a mystic "shiftling" - a person with the ability to transform into virtually any other human or animal form. She takes the place of her younger sister Casserah who is unwilling to embark on an obligatory social tour. Kirra spends much of the book in the form of her sister, but also changes into animal forms (like dogs, cats and birds). She also occasionally impersonates men and women. Kirra's servant Donnal spends much of the book as a wolf or in bird form, but he also poses as a maid and mimics Kirra. Kirra has the ability not only to transform herself, but transform other people who aren't shiftlings... She uses this power to turn two people into dogs, one of whom needs to be cured of a disease as an animal. (TF, slight ARed)

The Thief Lord

Book By Cornelia Funke

After their parents die, Prosper and Bo run away from their aunt and uncle (who, of course, want to adopt only the younger, cuter Bo, and send Prosper off to boarding school), making their way all the way to the city of Venice, Italy, which they had heard much of in the stories told by their late mother. There, they are taken into a gang of street kids who are under the guidance of the mysterious Scipio, also known as the Thief Lord. Prosper and Bo feel safe until they realize that their aunt and uncle have not only tracked them to Venice, but have also hired a private detective to track them down with the aim of recovering Bo. From there the adventure takes off, as the children dodge the detective while at the same time work to secure a mysterious object for an equally mysterious "Conte."

Three Arabian Nuts

TV Series: Season 0?; Episode #??: "All Gummed Up" (1947)

Three pharmacists decide to help an old lady by inventing a Fountain of Youth serum. They succeed and turn her into a young woman. They then turn her husband into an infant.

For those unfamiliar with the film, the Stooges play druggists who invent a youth elixir to save their business from being evicted by old and nasty landlord Amos Flint. They try the elixir on the landlord's wife (whom he's kicked out of their home for not being beautiful any more). The formula turns her into a curvaceous blonde. Then they trade a dose of the elixir to Amos in trade for the deed to the building housing their drug store. The result is AR that concludes with the landlord in baggy clothes crying like a baby.

A few years ago, a Three Stooges fan group reported that an extra scene was shot for this comedy short, but was deleted so the film could go out at 18 minutes. In this scene, the rejuvenated landlord is played by an actual baby fitted with a great mustache (in the earlier scene, they used a midget). The wife orders Shemp to feed the baby, but Shemp's efforts to get the baby to take the nipple on a baby bottle only results in Shemp getting his thumb bit.

(2002 Manchester: Adults playing the parts of children is an acquired taste - I found Tom and the three cousins in 'Tom's Midnight Garden' rather arch, but Tom grew on me, and the three cousins grew up in the story. The story of two teenagers, Melly and Anny Beth, who have lived over 150 years each. Once residents of a nursing home, they agreed to be part of an experiment on "unaging." The plan was for senior citizens to age backwards, eventually remaining 25-30 years old indefinitely, but the procedure didn't go as planned. Melly and Anny Beth find problems in getting younger, especially during the teenage years when they are trying to live independently. Searching for a family to adopt them before they become too young to care for themselves at all, they discover someone is searching for them.

He does, relives his life as a wealthy man who still remembers his 'other' life, and what happened during those years. In the end he realizes that he isn't as happy as he was formerly, and things come to a head when his 'new' life catches up with his old one.

Twice Told Tales

Movie: (1963)

Our first little terrible tale finds Vincent Price and co-star Sebastian Cabot in bad old-guy make-up so you know that there's going to be some age-regression going on in this one. Price and Cabot are a couple of old coots who have been friends for years. It is Cabot's birthday and he's invited Price over so that he can whine and moan about his fiancee that died on him almost forty years before on their wedding day. Cabot has never quite moved on from that day and has never loved another and in fact has his woman buried out in the backyard in a handy little crypt (he also has a coffin for himself in there so that he can be with her in death). You can tell that Price thinks his rotund little buddy has wasted his life obsessing and fantasizing about this woman, but what are you going to do, right? Since this is a spooky story, it is a dark and stormy night and there's a really big crack of thunder and dad gum it if the lightning hasn't gone and blown the door clean off the crypt! Cabot takes Price with him to investigate and they find his lady (Sylvia) laying in her coffin, but there's something strange about the way she looks. Even though she's been dead for forty years, she looks just as she did on the day she died! Cabot quickly determines that the water that has been leaking into her coffin is some sort of fountain of youth (don't ask me how he figured that out - he's a scientist and he ran a few tests - what more do you want?) and then decides that he should drink it down. He gets younger before an astounded Price, though he is still a lard ass (now that would be something to write home about - a fountain of youth that takes off the years and the pounds!) and he convinces Price he should knock back some of the wonder juice as well. The next step is for Cabot to inject Sylvia with the stuff and she comes back to life, not ever realizing that she had been dead. What no one knows though (uh, except for Price and Sylvia) is that back in the day the two of them had some type of thing going on, he got mad at her for marrying Cabot (it was just to spite Price) and poisoned her on her wedding day. Cabot hears this, confronts Price and bad things happen to all involved.

One wish was to be or look 10 yrs younger but there was a problem with her wish(es) and in frustration she says 'I wish I'd never found that lamp' and THAT wish is immediately granted) .

The Twilight Zone (1985)

TV Series: Season 02; Episode #04: "Aqua Vida"

a bottled water company supplied water that kept it's users young, A young looking coworker confessed her true age (50's I think but looked 25) to a friend and the gave her the company's business card. Seems the friend was 30ish. She had the water delivered to her home and paid for it. She loved it at first BUT (thee's always a 'but' ;-) ) found out that without it she rapidly AP'd past her real age. She had to continually use the water or turn elderly before her time.

Memory time...it seems that the husband used it too. It also seems that at the end they both decide to be old together rather than continue buying the water. Not sure about that ending at all... could be confusing it with something else.

- Time

First, something old: In the 'New Twilight Zone' description of the episode of the magic water that makes a female TV anchor look younger than her actual age, Louder is correct about the husband taking the water too. When she confesses to her husband that when the water wears off, she looks much older than her actual age (and doesn't want to pay the increasing cost of the water), he drinks some too so they'll both eventually look old together. He explains that he loves her so much, he wants to get old with her. And the episode ends with both covered with fairly good age makeup (looking about 60) sitting on a park bench feeding pigeons and looking lovingly at each other. The episode's title is 'Aqua Vida' and was originally aired on CBS on October 10, 1986.
