January 7 -- Jabiru Nesting Area: MudQuest

That night there was a good deal of rain. The roof of our bungalo is a traditional palm-leaf spread. No leaks! But it made our plans for the 7th a bit tricky. The way to the Jabiru Nests is thru an area which is kinda marshy. The rains made it much muddier than usual. Going was slow.

We were close enough to see the Jabiru pretty clearly, maybe 200 yards away. This one seemed a little agitated when we first appeared, but settled down when we failed to get any closer.

This bloom was from a climbing plant of some kind, it wound its way around the branches of a small shrub. Some kind of succelent, I believe.

For all the mud-slogging it seems like we should have come back with more pictures, but that's it. :-)

Later that day, the Buss's arrived (Chris & Elizabeth) and Robert took us all on a 3-hour car trip to Tikal National Park, across the border in Guatemala.
