The Dagger Of Amon Ra was released in 1991, with a return appearance of Laura Bow. Unlike the Colonel's Bequest, however, The Dagger Of Amon Ra, seemed to be barely noticed, due to a major drop in the sales of Adventure games that year. Unlike the Colonel's Bequest, this game featured mouse control as well as an improved sound palate, which were two major improvements.
The plot is a very good one, after graduating from University, Laura has travelled to New York, where an old friend of her father has agreed to give her a job. After being robbed of her money and luggage, Laura heads for the Tribune, where she recieves her new assignment: The Theft of the Dagger Of Amon Ra. She heads to a Fundraiser at the Leyendecker Museum where the Dagger was on display before stolen, and that's when the murders begin . . . not to mention the fact that the phone lines have been cut and the doors locked . . . leaving Laura with a parade of suspicious characters, one of which is plotting to kill them all . . .
What a great plot, huh? Out of all Roberta Williams' games, this is my personal favorite. Maybe it's because I'm a sucker for mysteries. Maybe it's because I'm in love with Egyptology. And maybe it's because it's one of the few things that portray a strong independent woman character in the 20s. But it's probably because of the booze, sex and gore. :-) Just kidding! None the less, it is undesputedly a great game.
There is, however a problem with the program, that really fucks it up, saying 'You have done something we were not expecting . . .' I know of no way to avoid or over come this problem. I highly recommend to save at the beginning of each new chapter and any other time you have the chance, so you wont have to start all over again if this problem occurs.
