Professor Bruntseva
Professional Background
Professor Bruntseva is an author, researcher and lecturer in international
commercial arbitration and Russian law. Since graduating from law school
with honors, she has simultaneously taught and practiced law. She was a
co-founder of one of the first private law practices in Alma-Ata,
Kazakhstan. Also in 1988, she began teaching law at the Kazakh State
University School of Law. As Assistant Professor in the Civil Law
Department, Professor Bruntseva taught courses in Civil Law, Business Law,
Contracts, Torts, Housing Law, Family Law and Copyright.
In 1991, Professor Bruntseva moved to St. Petersburg, Russia. She became
in-house counsel, and latter Chief Counsel, in the music publishing field
where her work involved copyright issues and general business law.
She also was a solo practitioner as she consulted clients, conducted
trials and negotiations, drafted documents within the scope of copyright
law and general business law and represented numerous Russian, foreign and
international not-for-profit and religious organizations as well as others.
In addition to her practice of law, Ms. Bruntseva became Professor of Law
at the St. Petersburg Institute of Law in 1994. There, and at the
St. Petersburg Juridical Institute, she taught courses in Civil Law,
International Commercial Arbitration, Lawyering, Contract Drafting and
Negotiations, and Introduction to Legal Profession and Legal Professional
Education. During this time, in 1996/1997, she went to the Yale Law School
where she earned the LL.M. (Master of Laws) Degree and then resumed her
practice and teaching positions.
In 1999, Professor Bruntseva was awarded a fellowship by the Soros
Foundation Open Society Institute to write a comprehensive Russian
language textbook on international commercial arbitration. The book was
published in April 2002 in St. Petersburg, Russia.
