On top of Mt. St. Helens and above the clouds. Behind me is the newly formed ice cornice. Beyond that is Spirit Lake.
This is the inner wall of the crater at Mt. St. Helens.
This picture below allows you to see the lava dome. You can see where the side of the mountain was blown completely away as well. i.e. There is no back wall. It's like a crater with only three sides. It slopes down toward Spirit Lake.
Standing there can be kind of unsettling. As the ice melts, it drips onto the dirt and rock on the inside wall of the crater. Rocks are constantly falling into the crater. They are loud. Given the history, it makes one's eyes dart about.
