PERSONAL INTERESTS

AQUATIC SPORTS:
I've always been interested in sports, specially if they are related to water. I started swimming since I was a little kid and soon I became part of the swim team of the University of Costa Rica. From there it took only a little before I was into water polo, skiing and even surfing. Even though I am way too far from being a pro, I try to surf every time I get the chance. The irony behind all this is that it wasn't until I left Costa Rica and arrived to California that I decided to start surfing. By the way, for all those who are interested in surfing in USA as well as in Costa Rica, the websites Surfline.com and CRSurf.com are among the best I've seen.
ASTRONOMY:
I have always been a great astronomy fan. I do must confess that I am far away from being a connoisseur on the subject, I am nothing but an aficionado. However, it was this interest in stars and the outer space the one that dragged me to study mechanical and aerospace engineering. For those interested in the subject, I recommend a couple of titles: Skywatching by Levy and the classic by Hawkings, A Brief History of Time. If you want to learn more about outer space and see some cool pictures at the same time, the NASA site is the ideal place to start.
MUSIC:
I am a rock fan, ranging from classic rock to alternative or modern rock. You name it, if it's loud, chances are I am going to like it. On the other hand, I also appreciate other musical styles, some of them fairly new like electronica and others a little bit older like folk, celtic and renaissance music. Of course, I couldn't forget one of my favorites: spanish rock, not only from Costa Rica but from all Latin America.
For more information about my favorite bands, their music, lyrics and cool links, please visit my music section. Finally, if you enjoy live music , Ticketmaster is an essential link that should be on everybody's bookmarks.
LITERATURE:
Even though I am not a writer (and I couldn't be any farther away from being one), I do appreciate a good book. Especially those related with theology and contemporary philosophy. Some authors whose work I've enjoyed are: Hesse, Nietzche, Goddard, Huxley and Walsh among others. Here are some links to Amazon and Barnes & Noble, which I consider fairly useful.
CINEMA:
As it can be expected, I couldn't name (and certainly I don't think there actually is) the best picture ever made. For me, it is more like a group of favorites, which by the way happens to be quite large and assorted. Among these are: Citizen Kane, Schindler's List, In the Name of the Father, Il Postino, Braveheart, and Dances with Wolves. On the other hand, since not all the great movies are awarded by the Academy,  among my favorites I also have: Heavy Metal, Point Break, and the Matrix. Obviously I am also one of the geek fans of Star Wars.
TRAVELING:
It only takes somebody to mention a trip to somewhere and my name is surely the first one on the sign-up list. I really enjoy traveling and getting to know different places, in particular I like National Parks or any other site where I can be in contact with nature. It has been this way that I got to visit most of the National Parks of my country, and since in Costa Rica almost every place is a park, you could say that I've gotten to know my country quite well. I also enjoy traveling outside of Costa Rica every time I have the chance ($). Here are some pictures of my "trips"  as well as some links for all those interested in visiting  Costa Rica.
