Letters to home The Souvenirs of War

While living in Walker's Motor Court, my mother often expressed the
hope of having a home of her own in her letters to my dad. This
dream became a reality in 1946 when my dad returned to civilian
life. This is a picture of them standing in the front yard of their
new home at 125 Tognazzini Street in Guadalupe. The angle of view
is towards the north east. In the background is a trailer park that
grew up in response to the need for housing to serve the growing
population that may have been tied entirely to increased activity at
Camp Cooke (now Vandenberg AFB). Further in the distance can be
seen the telephone poles that abutted the northern edge of Walker's
Motor Court and the tall hedge that separated it from the Guadalupe
Cementary.
