May 2003 Jason's
May 4 - 11
May 11 - 3:40 pm - Jason is a very sick little boy, but he is relatively stable.  The doctors cannot locate the source of his infection and he is struggling to fight it off.  They have him on the strongest antibiotics that they have.  They are walking a tightrope to keep him stable.  The good news is in the last two hours the doctors have not needed to be in his room.  That is good.  One day at a time.  Rob

May 10 - 7:00 pm - Jason has slide a little.  Keep the faith.  Rob

May 10 - 10:00 am - The doctors now think that all the events of this week have put Jason into what is call Acute Respitory Distress.  Apparantly, this will take several weeks to resolve and will get worse before it gets better.  At this point his heart is doing fine, but due to the type of operation that he had, his lungs will have a harder time getting through this.  One problem is that we still don't know what started all this.  It may be an infection, but it might not be.  The next few days will be long and difficult for everyone most of all Jason.  If all goes well we will start the upswing next week sometime.   Please say a couple extra prayers for the little guy.  I will put up another update tonight.  -  Rob

May 9 - 9:00 pm - Jason is still improving slowly.  He is having trouble clotting his blood.  This may have been the problem with his stomach.  They are giving him meds to help this, but they still don't know why it is happening.  More tomorrow - Rob

May 9 - 2:45 pm - Today is one of those day where any step in the right direction is a good step.  He seems to be getting better.   His heart rate is down which is good.  It is going to be a weekend of just waiting for him to get better.  The antibiotics seem to be starting to work.  If all goes well we might be able to try to to get off the vent on Monday or Tueday.  Rob

May 8 - 12:15 pm - Jason seems to have started to breakeven and pull ahead of his infections.  It will probably take a couple more days for him to get back to where they can think about getting him off the vent again.  For now he is getting better and that is all that matters.  - Rob

May 8 - 8:30 am - Jason has stabilized. He is going to have more tests done today to see what is going on with his stomach. They are keep a very close eye on him. Geof

May 7 - 6:45 pm - Jason has just gotten back from having an emergency Upper GI.  They have ruled out any kind of a twisted bowel and they confirmed that his stomach is emptying very slow.  Tomorrow, they will do an endoscopy to evaluate his stomach to see what needs to be done.  They are looking at ways to resolve his stomach problems permanently.  Jason's lungs are starting to respond and he is doing a little better with his breathing.  We will just have to hope that he did not get too much stuff into his lungs.  More Later - Rob.

May 7- 2:00 pm - Jason has had a setback today. He had low oxygen levels overnight, and they tried using an oxygen tent but ultimately they had to put him back on the ventilator. They are also going to be putting him on antibiotics for a week to prevent possible pneumonia. - more later Geof

May 6 - 9:00 pm - Jason did well today.  He sat up in his high chair and ate fruit snacks.  He was too tired to pick up the fruit snacks put them in his mouth.  He is very restless and is having trouble sleeping.  Hopefully, tomorrow they will pull his chest tubes and his arterial line.  More tomorrow - Rob

May 5 - 4:10 pm - Jason has pooped twice!!  That means that they are now allowed to feed him. He is chowing down on MinuteMaid frozen lemonade pops.  He is still pretty grumpy but otherwise is doing great.
Rob

May 5 - 12:30 pm - JASON IS OFF THE VENTILATOR!!! He was very uncompfortable when he go the tube out, but they gave him a bath pulled his Foley and now he is asleep in his mothers arms in the rocking chair.  It is a good day.  Rob.

May 4 - 9:00 pm - Jason has been such a good boy and is doing great. They expect to take him off the ventilator by noon tomorrow (Monday).

May 4 - 2:00pm - Jason has had a good night.  They need him to lose a lot of the water weight that he gained right after the surgery.  Yesterday morning he had about 3 pounds to lose. He has now lost about 2 pounds and has one to go.  It looks like they will start the process of weaning him off the ventilator today and pull the tube in the morning.  So far so good.  He is resting very peacefully.  He has not had any pain meds today at all only a little Tylenol.  Rob
