July - September 2001
July 7 -  We went to the Psychologist yesterday.  She wants us to really work on getting Jason to sleep in a bed, not in Felice's arms.  We shall see.
July 12- Things are going pretty well.  Jason is over his ear infection and we think he is teething again.  He has 4 on the bottom and 2 on the top.  He has been sleeping a little better and seems to want to be in his infant seat rather than being held, but he wakes up frequently.  I may try his crib one of these days.   Jason is vocalizing much more now, too and doing some imitation.  His favorite is to crow like a rooster.  It's very cute.  He has a new high chair insert and he enjoys sitting in it.  He likes to eat better this way because it gives  him more control.  He has been picking up Kix cereal and putting them i his mouth; I take them out because they don't soften very quickly.  He thinks it's a great game.  He has been eating teddy grahams and graham crackers.  I found out the other day that he really likes kiwi.  So we keep plodding along with the feeding and hope for some kind of breakthrough.  The speech therapist has just started and Jason did really well for her yesterdayy.  She does lots of oral motor massage and exercises.  He tolerated it very well.  We had his IFSP and he is now getting Ed 2x, OT 2x, PT 2x and 1 Speech.  We also attend a play group on Mondays which is mostly older kids, but it gets us out and Jason enjoys watching.  There is also a music component which is nice and Zachary comes too.  Jason is doing better with being held on  my chest for some face to face comfort , as recommended by Dr'Pellaquin.  He is getting better at being on his tummy and picks his head way up.  He still prefers to roll to his back after a short time.  He is spending lots of time in his walker and exersaucer, at times amusing himself and at other times, wanting someone at his beck and call to pick up the toys that he flings.  Well, we are taking our first trip.  We leave today to go to CT to stay with Uncle Pete and then go to Day out with Thomas on Saturday in Danbury.  I better go get packing.  Little lazty bones is still sleeping.
By the way, the garlic has been picked and the rest of the garden is looking great.
July 28
This time last year we were proibably at the hospital by now.
Feeding breakthrough alert.  Jason has been without his NG-tube all day since a week ago Thursday.  He just started drinking from a sippy cup Friday afternoon.  He took 12 ounces that day and almost 20 the next two.  Now since we are talking about Jason, his intake is decreasing again and we have started night supplementation, but hope to keep the tube out during the day. I really think he just wants to feed himself.  If we could just find a cup he could manage.  Jason loves swinging at Miyas.  He also has started going in the jumper, but does not really get the iea yet.

Today is the big party.  Go boys.
August 12

We are all doing pretty good.  Jason has been totally off the NG for the past few days and his intake has gone as high as 28 ounces.  He wakes during the night to top off, but it only takes a  few minutes- no big deal.  He hasn't had much interest in food though, funny kid.  Jason will actually play on his stomach now.and is really starting to try to sit on his own.  He is getting so strong and he is very proud of himself.

Their birthday party was a lot of fun.  Many thanks to all those who attended.  And thanks everyone for all the generous gifts.  We received enough money to build a new swing set /playhouse and both boys love it.  You should see Zachary on the climbing wall.  Jason loves to swing.

We took the boys for formal pictures today at Sears and they did great.  What smiles and Zachary was so proud to hold his little brother up.  We upgraded Jason to the big boy car seat and faced it forward.  The 2 boys were touching and teasing each other in the car.  I had to yell at them.  For the first time I really felt like the mother of 2 boys.  What a family day.
I have been having trouble uploading pictures so I made a photo album at www.babiesonline.com.  You will need his name and date of birth to access his page.  There are some really great pictures.

We are doing well.  Jason had two trips to the ER for a stomach virus.  He actually worried us because he was drinking too much.  We just wanted to be safe.  We did the whole run of clinics this month and everyone seems pretty pleased.  Jason is eating on his own and getting enough (He is approaching 18 pounds) .  He is on and off with solids.  He seems to really like the cherry tomatoes from the garden.  Jason is now sitting on his own for long periods of time without falling over and he is very proud of himself.  Brother Zachry has been in big boy underwear for over a week and is doing great.  He will start preschool next week.  We have been trying to make the most of the end of the summer.  We have gotten to Darien Lake  a few times.  Jason really enjoys the kiddie ferris wheel.  Zachary goes on the rides himself.

Prayers to all affected by this tragedy.

Just writing because I am very excited that Jason moved a significant distance in hiswalker yesterday.  It was slow, but he made it almost all the way around the island.  Feeding Jason continues to be a challenge.  He is now on 30 calorie formula and we are trying to rule out other food allergies.  Jason weighs 18  lb, 3 oz.  Zachary really enjoys preschool.  He has a new friend named Elizabeth who has long brown hair like mommy's.
