At the online speeding group we'd organised to meet up at the hotel on Thursday and Friday night. This was a great opportunity for everyone to meet each other before the official competition began.

Jasmine Lee testing the stack mat timers

We were able to test out the stack mat timers on Friday night at the hotel. Here's me having a go, with Heath Litton looking on. We all found that it took some practice to get used to the timers, but the general consensus was that they were a good choice for the competition. These timers were developed by Speed Stacks. If you think speedcubing is geeky, you should check out the competitive sport of cup stacking!.

I didn't get a very good time on my first attempt to use the timer.
