     King of England 1271 - 1307. Edward was the most praised of all medieval kings and reigned 1272 to 1307. He was a great soldier, pacifier and initiator of constitutional and parliamentary reform. Although he never succeeded in subduing the Scots, his persistence earned him the name of Hammer of the Scots. He took the Stone of Scone to Westminster where it remains. Edward conquered much of Wales and proclaimed his son the first English Prince of Wales. From his campaigns he learned the use of the longbow and thus built up the famous army of archers. He also fostered parliament and reformed the laws of tenancy and property. . Edward was born at Westminster, London, England, on 17 June 1239.1 He was the son of Henry III () and Eleanor (of Provence). He married Eleanor (of Castile) at Burgos, Spain, on 18 October 1254.1 He married Marguerite (of France) on 8 September 1299.2 Edward died on 7 July 1307 at near, Carlisle, Cumberland, England, at age 68.2

     Henry was the youngest of William the Conqueror's sons and came to the throne after the death of his older brother William Rufus. He was the only son to have been `born in the purple', that is after his father became king. He ruled long (1100-1135) and efficiently, but was capable also of great savagery and cruelty. On the other hand, because of his encouragement of scholars at court he earned the name `Beauclerc'. His only surviving legitimate was Matilda, although he had numerous illegitimate offspring. Henry was born at England, circa 1068. He was the son of William I (The Conqueror) and Matilda (of Flanders). He married Matilda (of Scotland) at England, on 11 November 1100. Henry died on 1 December 1135 at England.

He was a strong and active ruler who resolved the troubles of the previous reign. His reputation is clouded by his involvement in the murder of Thomas a Beckett. Henry was born at Le Mans, Sarthe, France, on 5 March 1133.1 He was the son of Geoffrey V Plantagenet and Matilda (of England). He married Eleanor (of Aquitaine) at Bordeaux Cathedral, Gascony, France, on 18 May 1152.1 Henry died on 6 July 1189 at Chinon Castle, Anjou, France, at age 56.1 He was buried in July 1189 at Fontevrault Abbey, Fontevrault, Maine-Et-Loire, Anjou, France.
