| The alien race that would one day become the Blight had developed a perfect society without disease or want. The only challenge they had not yet conquered was death. The scientist Atrophos led the race into a pact with Entropy to grant them immortality, but it came with a heavy price. In order to continue living the Blight had to infuse them-selves with the life energies of others, a process which eventually drove the entire race to insanity. After enslaving the Doda, an energy entity that traveled space, connecting every corner of the galaxy in its strands, the Blight had a chance encounter with the Legion and a UP stargate. They used the Stargate system to infect many UP worlds and Atrophos created a base on Earth to use the incredible life-force of M'Onel to exact his plan to destroy all life, which he believed would make his race truly immortal. The Blight enslaved many of the Legionnaires and their allies but a small group was able to remain free to lead an insurrection in the Blight's base. Saturn Girl used M'Onel's incredible power and the far-reaching energy of the Doda to seemingly erase the Blight taint from the galaxy, but mass destruction and nightmares were left in its wake. |
