WHAT'S A MUG? WHAT'S VP?

So, you arrived at a VP excite chat room.
Maybe you don't know how you got there, but you did. You are known as a "mug" and people might even be calling you a "mug" to your face! You are totally confused and have no idea as to what they are talking about.

Even though you can't see anything but a chat box, everyone else (who has downloaded the VP Excite Chat program) sees each other's avatar (AV), a tiny picture. In your case, your AV is a "coffee mug" (as shown to the right) because you haven't downloaded the VP Excite chat program.

Below is a picture of a VP chat room showing the avatars at the top, and the regular chat box at the bottom.

Me Jane

You Mug

Yes, that's why it's called VP Chat ... Virtual Places ... you see things! Now you know why people are calling you a MUG. Why look like a mug when you could look like those people up there? (OK, so the av's look really small because I shrunk the image, but you get the general idea.)

"What is the VP program?", you ask? And "What's so great about it?"
AVATARS
That's what makes VP unique. You can "look" like anything you want. People won't call you a mug ever again! More on avatars, how to get them, and use them, on the next page.
VOICE CHAT
You used to be able to talk in VP but due to financial reasons, that all went away. Lots of people have moved to PALTALK (which, as a chat room, sucks, but it is a great way to keep in touch with that special someone AND you can still use PALTALK's voice while in VP). Check out PALTALK.
REGULAR CHAT ROOM
Or, you can simply type in any of VP's chat rooms.
BROWSER CAPABILITY
You can browse ANY web page with a friend or group of people (who have also downloaded the program) and remain in a "chat room environment". YES, you can still type, still send private messages and still do all of the things you do in a VP chat room while at a completely different web site.
GESTURES
Gestures replace "emotes" or "emotions" that exist in many Java based chat rooms. VP's program comes with a few standard gestures (a wave, a smile, for example) but most that are used are made by the chatters themselves. When you are REALLY experienced using VP and are so inclined, you can create your own gestures (or just ask others to send you a gesture).
AND MORE
You can do the usual things within VP's chat rooms that you can do in Java based rooms, for instance, you can send private messages to one or more people at a time, set up private rooms (anywhere on the WEB!), locate chatters, ignore chatters, and more.

Fed up with people calling you a mug? Click on the Excite Chat logo directly below to read about how to DOWNLOAD.
Once you have downloaded the program and installed it, the Excite Chat icon to the right will be placed on your desktop (just click to log in). If you don't already have an excite ID, you can create one the first time you log in.
Go to the next page to learn how to get avatars. (Say "AV's" and be cool.)

But if all of this doesn't interest you, go back to Excite to sign in as a guest and be a mug again.
