Film, Music & Entertainment Services The Jamaica Film, Music & Entertainment Commission/JAMPRO, upon request, will assist in accompanying the producer, the director or location manager on location scouts. A copy of the script or location breakdown should be provided to the office to facilitate more efficient scouting. PRODUCTION CREW Jamaican crews comprise a cadre of experienced English-speaking professionals, who have worked on a variety of productions. These accredited technicians and artistes work in all aspects of Production. In features like The Harder They Come [Vista Film Production], Popcorn [Movie Partners] and KLA$H [Kingston Pictures] among others, Jamaican producers and directors function independently or in joint-venture productions. On major projects such as the Oscar Award winning feature Legends of the Fall[Twentieth Century Fox], Cool Runnings [Walt Disney Studios], and How Stella got her grove back [Twentieth Century Fox], Jamaicans are proving that they are excellent film technicians. PRODUCTION COSTS The rate of the Jamaican dollar against the US dollar and other major currencies ensures significantly lower costs. EQUIPMENT Equipment is available for hire in Jamaica. It is suggested that efforts be made to source equipment and services locally and to import only when these are not available on the island. State-of-the-Art equipment for production and post-production in 16mm and video are available from local production companies for rental at competitive rates. Overnight laboratory facilities in Miami are required for 16mm and 35mm. For any additional equipment and items which are being imported into the island, no duties or bond will be charged provided a list of such items is submitted to the Film Commission. All items entering the country must be re-exported on completion of filming. Duties will be charged on consumable goods once such items are manufactured and available in Jamaica. It is recommended that a Customs Broker be engaged to clear imports. A list of brokers can be provided by the Commission.
