| Tools and their Various Upgrades Ocarina of Time This can be used for all sorts of things, from healing the mentally deranged to causing Link to warp from one end of the world to the other. Check out Ocarina Songs for more details. Each of Link's bodies has an instrument of choice; Hylian Link plays the Ocarina, the Deku Scrub plays these wierd horn things (Deku Pipes, I think they are called), Darmani plays bongos, and Mikau plays the guitar. Magic Beans You can buy these from the man in the Deku Palace's grotto. Plant them in soft soil, then water them to make them grow. Once they do so, hop on the plant for a ride, usually to a Piece of Heart or some rupees. Only Hylian Link can use these. Pictograph Box Link will find this in the Visitor Center to the Southern Swamp. He can take pictures of anything and everything, but can only hold one picture at a time. This tool will win Link Piece of Heart 25. Only Hylian Link can take pictures. Lens of Truth Link will find this in the Goron Village and, with it, can see things not visible to the naked eye. Link can use this tool in any form. Be careful, it uses up magic. Powder Keg This massive bomb can only be handled by Darmani. You can buy them in Clock Town or in the Goron Village. Be careful not to blow yourself up! Bottles Six bottles can be found throughout the game. In them you can contain fairies (which revive you when you die and replenish your health when you're alive), milk (which gives you five hearts for each sip), fish, and Potion (the red gives life, green gives magic, and blue gives both; they can be bought at Koume and Kotake's place). Here are the locations of the bottles: - Find Koume in the Swamp's Woods of Mystery by following the monkey, then return to Kotake for a potion to revive her sister. You get to keep the bottle. - Your prize for winning the Goron race after Goht's defeat is a bottle of gold dust. After you've used the gold, you can keep the bottle. - Your reward for halting the invasion of the aliens at Romani Ranch is a bottle of milk. - Win the beaver race for a nice prize. Win it twice for a nicer one. - Defeat the Poe in Dampe's Grave in Ikana Graveyard. - If you hand-deliver Kafei's letter to his mother, Madame Aroma, in the Milk Bar on day 3 after 6:00 pm, you'll get a bottle of Chateau Romani. Wallet Link begins the game with the Child Wallet (with a capacity of 99 rupees). After depositing at least 200 rupees in the West Clock Town bank, you'll earn the Adult Wallet (with a capacity of 200 rupees). If you complete the Oceanside Spider House on day 1, you'll get the Giant Wallet (with a capacity of 500 rupees). Special Purpose Items There are a few random items that you can use with C, but are not really tools or weapons. These include the Moon Tear, Deed Titles, Room Key, and more. Weapons and their Various Upgragdes Deku Stick These can be picked up from the Deku Baba that stand up straight when you approach. They can be used as swords, but they break after one swipe. They are mostly useful for lighting torches. If you keep them burning too long, they will burn away; to save them, pull out some other weapon just before the stick turns to a crisp. Only Link can use these. Deku Nut Just as in Ocarina of Time, these are definately the most worthless items in the game. They stun puny enemies with their blinding flash of light. But if you are even minutely comfortable with your sword, you really don't ever need to mess with these stupid things. Both Hylian and Deku Scrub Link can use these. Though I don't know why they would want to. Bombs This cool weapon is used quite often in the game. You can pick it up, run with it, throw it, set it down, and pull them out at any time. Your first bomb bag will allow you up to 10 bombs. You can pick up one that holds up to 20 by buying the one the Bomb Shop in Clock Town sells if you stop Sakon from robbing the old lady in North Clock Town on day 1 at 12:30 am. The Deku Scrub in Goron Village will sell you a bag that will hold even more bombs if you hand over 200 rupees. Only Hylian Link can use these. Bombchu Your Bombchu share a bomb bag with your regular bombs. It's basically a mouse-like bomb on wheels. It climbs walls, enemies, whatever, and detonates in places impossible for normal bombs to reach. And they're just so much cooler. However, they are difficult to control once you've let them loose; it will take some practice to become a pro, especially when the surface over which the Bombchu is going is quite bumpy. Only Hylian Link can use these. Hero's Bow The Hero's Bow can be found in Woodfall Temple. It behaves exactly like the Fairy Bow in Ocarina of Time, so see this page for techniques: Operating Strategies. Link's initial quiver holds 30 arrows. Get perfect scores in the Clock Town and Swamp Shooting Galleries for quivers that hold up to 40 and 50 arrows. Only Hylian Link can use this weapon. There are four different kinds of arrows in the game, each performing a different task: - Wooden Arrows come automatically witht he bow. They do not use up magic power and are a simple and effective weapon for most enemies. - Fire Arrows are useful for destroying icy enemies, lighting torches, and melting ice. They use up magic each time you use them. - Ice Arrows are useful for freezing enemies and putting out fires. They use up magic each time you use them. - Light Arrows can be found in the Stone Tower Temple. They can be used to stun enemies and light up sun symbols. They use up even more magic than Ice and Fire Arrows each time they are shot. Hookshot This is both weapon and tool and is my personal favorite item in the game. Only Hylian Link can use it. It grapples objects, pulls you towards them, pulls them to you, stuns huge enemies, kills smaller ones, and is an all-around useful item. The Hookshot does not have an upgrade in this game as it did in Ocarina of Time, so you begin with the range of a Longshot. Sword This is, of course, the most used weapon in the game. Link without his sword is truly a fish out of water. Swords, other than killing enemies, can be used to detect hollow recesses behind walls, cut down various objects, block certain attacks, trigger switches, you name it. Use the Ocarina of Time Operating Strategies page since it's the same for Majora's Mask. Three swords are present in the game: - The Kokiri Sword will be yours after you revert to your Hylian form for the first time. It has a tiny reach, but it's long enough for the child that you are in this game. -The Razor Sword is pretty cool, but it dulls after 100 swings. It is twice as powerful as the Kokiri Sword. - The Gilded Sword can be bought in the Mountain Village if you give the smith a bottle of golden dust (you can win this after defeating Goht) and a sharpened Razor Sword. It takes a whole day, but the sword is worth the wait. It is three times as powerful as the Kokiri Sword. - The Great Fairy's Sword is strange, since it behaves just like the Kokiri or Gilded Swords, but you use it with C. If you push B, you'll revert back to the default sword. It has a huge reach and does quite a bit of damage. You'll win this after returning the 15 stray faries in Stone Tower Temple to their fountain. Shield Link uses the Hylian Shield in this game, though it operates just like the Deku Shield from Ocarina of Time. Read about it here in Operating Strategies. |
