 Screening for diabetes

 

                      INDICATIONS FOR SCREENING TEST FOR DIABETES

 

 

                                                                      

 

  1. Those having typical signs and symptoms  of diabetes.  

  2. All persons over age of 30 years should undergo annual test to rule out presence of diabetes.

  3. Persons at high risk must undergo blood sugar testing more frequently, and at least once annually.

  4. Testing should be considered at younger age and be carried out more frequently in:

Obese ( BMI > 27 kg/m2 ) 

First degree relative with diabetes.

High risk ethical population.

Hypertensive.

Delivery of large baby.(>9 Lb)

HDL cholesterol < 35 mg/dl.

Triglycerides >250 mg/dl.

Impaired glucose tolerance (IGT)

 

2 hr PP Post Prandial) glucose >140mg/dl and < 200mg/dl in previous testing.  

      Impaired fasting glucose (IFG) -fasting glucose >110 mg/dl. But < 140 mg/dl in previous testing
