Foxtrot: Basic Sequence: Part 10

The first basic sequence.

Please Note: This is a sequel to Waltz: Basic Sequence

Basic Sequence
1. Quarter Turn
2. Natural Pivot Turn
3. Reverse Pivot Turn
4. Under Arm Turn
5. Side Step

Under Arm Turn (Man)
Under Arm Turn (Lady)
Under Arm Turn (In Pairs)

Under Arm Turn (Man)

1. Step 0 (Start) Left foot is on the floor and feet are together. However, the Right foot is just off the floor.
2. Step 1 (Slow) Right foot moves forward, and body turning to the right.
3. Step 2 (Quick) Left foot to the side along the LOD, and the body keeps turning due to the earlier movement. Note here that although the body is turning the feet remain diagonal to the wall.
4. Step 3 (Quick) Right foot closes in with the Left foot and transfer weight to it. The body turning is stops gradually here. The position here is Promenade. Both the partners are now facing in the same direction, which is along the LOD. Man’s Right and lady’s Left hip remain in contact.
5. Step 4 (Slow) Left foot moves along the LOD.
6. Step 5 (Slow) Right foot moves from in front of the Left foot, thus it moves across the Left foot.
7. Step 6 (Quick) Left foot moves from behind the Right foot and along the LOD and step to the side with a gap between the feet.
8. Step 7 (Quick) Right foot closes in to the Left foot and shift the body weight on to it.
9. Step 8 (Slow) Left foot moves along the LOD, to the side.
10. Step Finish (Slow) this is the first step of the succeeding figure.
This figure if repeated again, then the Finish Step would be the Step 1.

Under Arm Turn (Lady)

1. Step 0 (Start) Right foot is on the floor and feet are together. However, the Left foot is just off the floor.
2. Step 1 (Slow) Left foot moves backward, and body turning to the right. After stepping, turn 45 degrees or 1/8 turn to one's right.
3. Step 2 (Quick) Right foot to the side along the LOD, and the body keeps turning due to the earlier movement. Note here that although the body is turning the feet remain pointing to the Centre.
4. Step 3 (Quick) Left foot closes in with the Right foot and transfer weight to it. The body turning is stops gradually here. The position here is Promenade. Both the partners are now facing in the same direction, which is along the LOD. Man’s Right and lady’s Left hip remain in contact.
5. Step 4 (Slow) Right foot moves along the LOD. After stepping turn about 90 degrees or 1/4 turn to the right.
6. Step 5 (Slow) Left foot moves straightforward. Turn 270 degrees or 3/4 turn to face partner.
7. Step 6 (Quick) Right foot moves to the side with a gap between the feet.
8. Step 7 (Quick) Left foot closes in to the Right foot and shift the body weight on to it. In addition, turn 45 degrees or 18 turn to the left to come square to the partner.
9. Step 8 (Slow) Right foot moves along the LOD, to the side and in line with the partner.
10. Step Finish (Slow) this is the first step of the succeeding figure.
This figure if repeated again, then the Finish Step would be the Step 1.

Under Arm Turn (In Pairs)

1. Step 0 (Start) Start position.
2. Step 1 (Slow) Strong step. Man helps lady to turn; however, he does not turn. Only at this stage, the lady realises that it is not going to be the usual Quarter Turn.
3. Step 2 (Quick) In Promenade Position.
4. Step 3 (Quick) In Promenade Position.
5. Step 4 (Slow) Step to the side and man helps the lady to turn further so that the lady’s Right foot is pointing the LOD.
6. Step 5 (Slow) Man steps across and Lady straight ahead. This is a strong step, which helps the Lady to turn.
7. Step 6 (Quick) Man starts to reduce the turning movement gradually.
8. Step 7 (Quick) After the step the man’s force to reduce the turning of the lady helps the lady to turn to the right and come square to the man.
9. Step 8 (Slow) Last step of the figure.
10. Step Finish (Slow) this is the first step of the succeeding figure.
This figure if repeated again, then the Finish Step would be the Step 1.
