Foxtrot: Basic Sequence: Reminder: Part 9

The first basic sequence.

Please Note: This is a sequel to Foxtrot: Basic Sequence: Part 5

Across the LOD
The LOD in this case is the horizontal blue line just above the first step and it progresses from the Right to Left. The first step is diagonal to the LOD and wall. The second step is in the same direction as the flow-direction of the first step as shown by the red arrow. In the process, one needs to step across the partner. Similarly, one is also stepping across the LOD.

Here I have stressed such turns, as it is slightly difficult. If one is able to muster this then all other turns in any dance become very easy. Moreover, such turns give a lovely swing when mastered and it is very enjoyable. Such turn is what we all look forward to in a fair, especially the Merry-go-round, the Giant Wheel, Roller Coaster, and its likes.

Along the LOD
In this case, the second step is along the LOD. Thus, the first step moves diagonal to the LOD or the Wall, and the second step moves parallel to the LOD. There is a slight break in the flow of movement.

Here we will not be stressing on this kind of movement as it is what comes more easily and you would be doing it already and subconsciously. In case of the Quarter Turns, the stepping required is along the LOD. However, the animated picture has "stepping across". The idea is that if the more difficult part is practised then the easier part comes with more ease and with finesse.

Therefore to see the Quarter Turn when done with stepping along the LOD please click here. Quarter Turn.
