Foxtrot: Basic Sequence: Part 11

The first basic sequence.

Please Note: This is a sequel to Waltz: Basic Sequence

Basic Sequence
1. Quarter Turn
2. Natural Pivot Turn
3. Reverse Pivot Turn
4. Under Arm Turn
5. Side Step

Side Step

1. Step 0 (Start) Feet are together and weight is on one foot only with the other foot slightly off the floor. For man the weight is on the Left foot and for the lady on the Right foot.
2. Step 1 (Slow) Take a strong step forward with the Right foot (Man) and backward with the Left foot (Lady). At the end of the step, as the other foot begins to close in to the step1 turn to the right at 45 degrees or 1/8 turn. In this position, man is facing the Wall and lady is facing the Centre.
3. Step 2 (Quick) Both the dancers step to the side along the LOD with the Left foot (Man) and Right foot (Lady).
4. Step 3 (Quick) Feet together, which is achieved by man moving the Right foot too the Left foot and shift weight on it. Similarly, lady moves the Right foot to the Left foot and shifts weight on it.
5. Step 4 (Slow) Step to the side with the Left foot (Man) and Right foot (Lady). After stepping, the free foot half closes to the Stationary foot, which is, Left foot for the man and the Right foot for the Lady.
6. Step 5 (Slow) Up until now all the movements were from right to left of this page. For this step, the movement is slightly in the opposite direction. The Left foot (Man) and Right foot (Lady) remaining in place, move the free foot to the side. Moreover, after stepping on the Right foot (Man) and Left foot (Lady) half close the free foot.
7. Step 6 (Quick) Now for this step resume the movement from Right to Left of this page. Move to the side with the Left foot (Man) and Right foot (Lady).
8. Step 7 (Quick) Close the Right foot to the Left foot and shift weight on it (Man); and Left foot to the Right foot and shift weight on it (Lady).
9. Step 8 (Slow) Move to the side with the Left foot (Man) and Right foot (Lady).
10. Step Finish (Slow) Man’s Right foot moves forward and Lady’s left foot backward.
Note: When one foot moves from one position to the other, it should always close to the stationary foot that carries the body weight.
Thus when going into this step the Right foot (Man) and Left foot (Lady) move in close to the stationary foot. As the feet come together swivel on the stationary foot to the left and without the break in the movement of the free foot.
To repeat this figure again, continue with Step.
