THIS UNCIVILIZED BEHAVIOR - How long must we tolerate?

Open your windows, and this is what greets you. Day after day, year after year. How long must we tolerate this filthy behavior? We may lock ourselves in, closing all our doors and windows - but would that spare us from this pollution? Residents of Jadavpur Central Road, those living around the pond are about to unite after a long time. We do not wish to squabble on whether we live on ward 93 or 96 - if anyone offers help, he is gladly welcome. Otherwise we will ourselves make this region free of pollution. Thanks to Parivesh Suraksha Committee, the lorries have left and we are already begining to enjoy a somewhat cleaner air. But not for long. If we do not stay united this mass movement will not succeed. Lots of work needs be done - clean the banks, remove those unwelcome polluters, prepare a garden etc. etc. We need everyone to be involved, especially the mothers and the sisters (it is very difficult to translate this quintessentially Bengali expression - "Ma-bone" or "mother & sister", which really refers to the "ladies at home." Chauvinistic, though very respectful). At least 2 months of concerted effort is needed if we are to live peacefully for prolonged periods.

Coming Sunday, 10 A.M., please assemble on Central Road. Everyone! Maybe space will be a problem, still. This is our common struggle. Thank you.
