Wheel Horse Garden Tractors
NEW EDITIONS TO THE GROUP!!
UPDATED  October 21, 2008!!
On the right is my 1963 model 603.  Originally meant as a economy model, or bargain tractor, this is now moving towards being one of the more collectible models.  It has a few unique features that were only available on this tractor.

This one is nowhere near original or perfect, but it is currently being worked on.  Hopefully some garage time over the winter will help this one along.  I won't be putting it back to original, but hope to have a really nice looking tractor when I'm done.  I've also picked up a ST-323 snowthrower that will go on this tractor when I'm done.

On the left, a 1968 Charger 9.  Bought this over the winter down around Savanna, IL.  A guy had found it out in the treeline on a riverbank.  It's pretty rough, but I think it's a keeper.

I've decided to attempt a repower on this tractor.  Unfortunately it will involve stretching the hood and perhaps the frame.  This project is currently on hold.

This was my first round nose. Also known as a "nut-roaster" or "ball-burner" if you prefer.  So aptly named from the location of the motor right in between the legs of the operator.  This tractor and some attachments came to me as a one family but multi-owner tractor.  Purchased new back in 1960 or 1961, and passed along through the family for years.  It's original, complete and in in pretty good shape overall.

The Suburban is now sporting a brand new carb, and did a great job at snow removal last winter with the blade.  It also made a trip to a show with the LMR-301 mounted up this summer.

This is the first Wheel Horse I owned myself. I got a lead on it from a guy I was working with.  He had a little A-90 and one day while we were talking about his tractor, he said a guy he worked with at another job had an old Wheel Horse that didn't quite run right and he didn't want anymore. He'd already bought a replacement mower and he was willing to give it away to whoever would haul it away. Well needless to say, a phone call and a day later it was in the back of my truck. New spark plug and clean out the fuel pump and she was as good as new.

This is my Commando 8.  It is currently the nicest looking tractor I own.  Except for the paint it is all original.  I bought it from a guy who had taken it apart and painted every piece.  He had even taken the trouble to mask all the decals, so they are original and in very nice shape.  I bought this tractor to mow with, it came with a deck.  It has since been used with a plow to turn the garden in the fall.  The 8HP Kohler is still running good and strong.

This tractor was given to me by my brother-in-law.  He got it from a kid who had couldn't decide whether he wanted to race it or pull it, he painted it funny colors then decided he didn't want it anymore.  It was my second 1968 Tractor.
Picture soon I hope!!
1968 Lawn Ranger (Model 1-2631)
My father-in-law called me up one day and said there was a Wheel Horse for parts on ebay that was in the town he lived in.  He knew the guy selling it, and wondered if I was interested.  Said he'd pick it up for me if I wanted it.  I checked it out... it was yet another 1968 tractor.  I figured why not... a few bucks, and another tractor in my 1968 catalog.  The Raider had a broken rod in its original Tecumseh HH 100.  I found a nice used rod pretty reasonable and replaced it.  Now I am just trying to find time to get the motor back on the tractor.

Update... motor needs additional work, so a spare K-181 is currently powering the Raider9.  It is currently on mower duty, and doing just fine.

This tractor was the last one that belonged to my grandfather before he passed.  It's still at home, parked in the shop.  He had many different Wheel Horses over the years.  I have no idea what models he had, but I can't remember a single day there wasn't one either parked in the shop or out working in the orchard.
