Memorable games
First steps
In 1894, 10 gymnastics teachers arrive in Bulgaria from Switzerland.
Georges du Regibus, a very well built athlete and a
wonderfull teacher, starts teaching at the Men's Academy
in Varna. 14th of May, 1894, he juggles a football in front
of his students at the academy yard. The youngsers
embrace with love the interesting game, to build the
foundation of the game of football not only in the city, but
the whole country!
During the year of 1897, The Ministry of education
prints the basic rules of the game, and football becomes a sport. Small neighbourhood teams start to form, matches are being arranged against foreign sailors, experience starts to add up, and soon enough a football movement starts to look towards its future.
1908 - in Varna, greek youngsters forme  "Atlas" FC. Soon after, "Sportist" FC comes to the stage with the sons of rebel Toncho Vitanov - Vasil and Stefan Tonchevi, Nikola Nitsov, Kircho Angelov, Boyan Popov, Nikola Popov,
Stefan Danchev.
The games between "Sportist" and "Atlas" are very interesting - a real intrigue for the game of football. "Sportist" becomes the city's representative at matches with foreign football players from different military parts and naval crews. The Varna footballers start to feel confident that they have learned the art of football.
