Add or Remove plug and play hardware in Windows 2000
1.Click "Start"
2.highlight "Settings" from the menu then select "Control
panel"
3.In the control panel select "Add/remove hardware". This launches
the "add new hardware wizard", click "Next"
4.In the dialogue that opens, select "Add/troubleshoot a device"
to add new hardware or "Unistall/Unplug" a device to remove
hardware
5.Click "Next". Windows will search for any new hardware and
display a list promting you to choose the hardware to add.
select the correct hardware and click "Next".
6.If windows contains the driver for the device it will install it automatically
if not it will then prompt you for the location of the driver information
file.
7.If you have the device's manufacturer driver disk insert it and browse
to the location of the inf file.(note that different operating systems
need different drivers even if its for the same device)
8.Click "OK"
9.Windows will list the driver(s) it has located. If listed driver is
correct click "next" and windows will install the driver. Windows
might prompt you to restart for the new settings to take effect. Do so
to avoid errors.
