With SwitchBlade, you can create and edit simple text documents or documents with complex formatting and graphics. SwitchBlade highlights a lot of features that cannot be commonly found in free (as in free beer) software and most especially, those developed by "newbie" students in programming. It is also built under the traditional Unix® philosophy which states that "there is more than one way to do it."

It features the basic functions any respectable text editor could offer such as basic text formatting, opening, saving, and creating new file in either Simple Text format or Rich Text Format (RTF). It also includes a custom-built dictionary function called VoodooSpell ™ and an MS Word dependent one which also includes a thesaurus, and an automatic document recovery function called Deja Vu ™. All of which are all original in concept and design. The aforementioned features may be relatively crude compared to existing proprietary counterparts and left with minor bugs as a direct result of its early advent as version 1.0. But nonetheless it was created mainly as a "proof of concept", which means it can be done, most importantly by us as second year college students.

In addition to that, SwitchBlade includes an interface switching function which can seamlessly switch from a WordPad look (Sleek455 mode) to a Notepad look (Simple mode) interface. It also includes a text-to-speech functionality which can speak text typed on the screen and say the buttons that you press. For purposes of customization, this function can easily be disabled and enabled as determined by the user.

SwitchBlade is currently free software and is available for use and as instructional or education purposes. The complete source is available through request from the developers.

SwitchBlade is software developed entirely in Visual Basic 6.0. This is meant to be a final output or project in our course requirement in CS034P - Fundamentals of Programming II under professor Mideth B. Abisado in the Mapúa Institute of Technology, Makati City, Philippines

SwitchBlade is also inspired with a philosophy in mind:

      What I hear I forget.
      What I see I remember.
      What I do I understand.

Thank you! ...and oh, have fun!
