Happy Birthday John! - mood: happy
John is 21 today. Happy Birthday, babe! *hugs* I hope he had a good time going out last night, even though he didn't want to get all drunk :D I'm sure I'll hear about it sometime.
I had a blast last night. Called up Dustin & Christina and went over to their new house. Adam and Ian live there too, but Ian was at a party, so it was the four of us, just kickin' it. Played some video games (ATV Racing, baby!) and had dinner along with some kiwi-mango juice and a bowl or two (or three, gah, I can't remember), and watched Starship Troopers (which is one gory, cheesy, but funny movie *g*). As the credits were rolling, the power went out. It didn't even flicker - it just went out. We all started to get paranoid, as it was about 1:30 in the morning, out in the woods in the dark. We heard some jets flying really low; Dustin and Adam went outside to see. Christina and I were cuddled close together on the couch because we were scared :D The boys came back saying jets were definitely flying low, and we all were convinced something bad happened at the nearby submarine base (which is chock full of nuclear weapons..) We went outside and it was absolutely silent - we couldn't hear any cars on the roads like we usually would. It was really bright outside too, for 1:30am. The more we thought about it, the more freaked out we got. It was really nice though, having the TV off and just talking about anything. We bitched about working at Staples together (we've all left that store within a few months of each other), discussed religion, our pasts, all kinds of good stuff. The power was out for another hour or so when it finally came back. Then somehow we got to talking about ghost stories, which kept the creepy feeling going. And dammit, Dustin said something funny, and we all said that we need to remember it, but I fucking forgot! It was bound to happen though - I have to call them and let them know I forgot the funny thing Dustin said :D We'll probably laugh forever about it.

today's storTrooper - mood: giggly
I made about 5 incarnations of myself using their avatar creator, and here's today's! hehehehe, isn't she cute? Bet you thought I never had it in me! Fear not though; in real life, I don't own a whip. Honest. But I do have a pair of cool-as-hell shades, don't I, John? We both are proud owners of Persol sunglasses, made in Italy and polarized for your optical protection. I've got a black skirt, sure - doesn't every girl? No fishnets though.

Real World & survey - mood: okay, I guess
I woke up this morning at 6:30, when my alarm went off. I forgot to turn it off since it's the weekend - fuck. So I've been up since then, just feeling like not doing anything this morning. I've spent the past hour or so laying in bed, watching a Real World Chicago marathon. I really liked that show when it first started back in New York; I even played with the idea of submitting a video and trying to get on the show someday. Maybe I'll do it when they're casting for the next show. I would learn so much about myself and other people being in a fishbowl with tons of people watching. Of course, with the magic of editing, I could be portrayed as the house bitch, or the house slut, but I'd never be the house recluse, that's for sure. I don't get this Tonya chick who spends most of her time on the phone - she lives in an amazing house in a huge city with interesting people and she'd rather be on the phone?! I just don't get it. Watching the show makes me think about moving out, and asking myself whether I can really pull this off. I'm sure I'll find a way if things ever get tough. That's what eBay is for :)
Here's a survey Mandy emailed me this morning:
1. What's your name spelled backwards? yraeL'O esoR yhtaC
2. Where were your parents born? My dad was born in Houston, Texas; my mom was born in the Philippines, but I can't remember which city...
3. Have you ever moved? Plenty of times - it's the life of the Navy brat. Gonna be moving away from home soon though.
4. What's your favorite restaurant(s)? Aoki in Seattle, and Red Robin since that was (and still is, when you guys are in town) our place.
5. Your bed is a single, double, queen or king size? A double, but I want a queen. The drawback of having a bigger bed is the emptiness of the side you don't occupy is more noticeable.. *siiiiiigh*
6. Your favorite sport to play? It's a tie between volleyball and Ultimate Frisbee.
7. How many kids do you want? Two, in like, 8 years.
8. Favorite club/bar? I liked Milestones in Vancouver, BC - I should be able to better answer this question next April ;)
9. Type of music you dislike most? Country. *shiver*
10. Color of your schoolbag? dark khaki
11. What's your fav. type of music? house, drum-n-bass, indie, old school hip hop and RnB :D
12. Do you have cable? *digital* cable
13. Favorite 80's song? "Who Can It Be Now?" by Men At Work
14. Ever prank call anybody? in elementary school, yeah
15. Ever get a parking ticket? Not yet :D
16. Would you go bungy jumping or sky diving? Sky diving! Totally.
17. Furthest place you ever traveled? Which is further away from Washington State - England, or the Philippines??
18. Ever bowl over 300? I'm lucky if I break 100.
19. What's your favorite comic strip? The Far Side forever. It's a shame that the comic strip featuring a character with my name totally sucks. She's my absolute opposite - she's always single :D
20. Do you really know all the words to our national anthem? Yep.
21. Bath or shower? Showers, although a bath is more fun with another person.
22. Favorite movie you've seen in the last month? Memento! Amazing movie.
23. Favorite pizza toppings? Gotta love that pizza sauce, and lotsa cheese.
24. Chips or popcorn? Neither, really. Give me fruit!
25. Beer or ale? Pale ale, baby :D
26. Ever smoke peanut shells? What the fuck?!
27. Do you eat the skin on chicken? That's the best part, although it's really bad for you.
28. What kind of Orange Juice do you buy? Tropicana
29. Favorite kind of cookie? Snickerdoodles
30. Favorite type of chocolate? the chocolate that boys buy for me :D
31. Your favorite vegetable? carrots
32. Your favorite fruit? mango, mandarin orange, strawberries
33. Have you ever won a trophy? I have a few from the tae kwon do tournaments I participated in during high school. I placed 1st in sparing in my division.
34. Are you a good cook? I would say so.
35. Do you know how to pump your own gas? Sure do, although I was totally baffled the first time.
36. Ever order an article from an infomercial? Umm.. no.
37. Is Oprah annoying or great? ANNOYING! It's not even her show anymore; she has Dr. Phil do all the work.
38. Do you enjoy your present job? It's sooo awesome. I love having a comfy office job. It's about time - retail fucking sucks.
39. Ever flex in front of a mirror? When I used to weight-train :D
40. Ever thrown up in public? Yeah, at a few parties.. I'm such a lightweight
41. Would you prefer being a millionaire or find true love? TRUE LOVE! 'nuff said
42. Do you believe in love at first sight? Lust at first sight strikes more than love at first sight, really. Especially to me.
43. Ever call a 1-900- number? nope, but I've been told that I could work for one :) I just have "the voice", they said.
44. Ever been stood up on a date? Once - haven't spoken to him since.
45. What is a major turnoff of the opposite sex? not being affectionate
46. Ever been cheated on? Yes
47 Who's your favorite SNL character? Mango, no contest.
49. What was the name of your first pet(s)? Fluffy, the puppy my parents bought when I was a toddler; I used to pull her tail :)

AAAAAAAAHHHHH!!!!!! - mood: absolutely ecstatic
We got it, we got it! Our credit check went through!!! Loree and I got a call back from the apartment lady and she said we're approved to move in, we just have to pay an extra month of rent since we don't have much rental history yet. I'M SO FREAKIN' HAPPY!!!!!!! It's really happening. The snowball has started its journey downhill. I'd better get stuff that I don't need at the moment boxed up and ready to go. It'd also be good if I stayed late at work for, like, the rest of the month :D A little bit of overtime means more food in the pantry! Oh, I'm so happy! This is totally what I need right now - to strike out on my own and worry about
me for a while. We'll be moving in around mid-August, and we've secured a top floor apartment with vaulted ceilings and ceiling fans :D So fucking cool! If you're in the 'hood, you'll have to stop by when we have it all set up.
Friday, July 5th, 2002 - 10:21am
look, look, it's me! - mood: amused
It's so cute! :D The only difference is that I smile a bit more than the avatar does, and my hair isn't quite that light, but that's the only hairstyle available with blonde highlights. And it's not quite proportional to me exactly (it needs to be a bit more top-heavy ^_^), but still, it's cute! I got the link to the avatar creator from Fortune Cookie's blog. The URL is listed right there for ya, so go ahead and make your own! I'm going to create a few more with different outfits and post them here from time to time. I'm working on one right now where I'm dressed as a whip-wielding dominatrix! :D HAHAHA! This is gonna be fun...
Friday, July 5th, 2002 - 8:38am
back to work - mood: working
Hope everyone had a good 4th - mine was good aside from being rained on about halfway through the neighborhood fireworks show. Well, I wasn't exactly rained on; Gemma and I were sitting on Chris's padded swinging bench, which has a cover over it :) I honestly wish I didn't have to work today - she and I would
still be out there talking! I never realized how much I missed her until last night; we appreciate each other's humor like no other. We both concluded that we don't seem as funny after high school, and it's all because we aren't around people that understand that humor. "Dammit, I know I'm hilarious, why aren't you laughing?" It's either that or we know tons of people that remind us of Eeyore :D "..thanks for noticin' me..." BWAHAHAHA! Is that a rain cloud over your head or what?! Anyway... it was good to get caught up with that girl again. We can confide in each other about things that most people think are too raucous or obscene to mention out loud. Hey Gemma, so you did it, like,
a million times?!?! :D Too funny. Gotta visit her and Iris when they move out to Seattle.
So my parents were successful in blowing up over $200 worth of shit. Not actual shit, that'd be gross. It took them a good 2 and a half hours to get it all blown up. It's so cute, they're like little kids when it comes to fireworks :) They'll be 70 years old someday and still blow stuff up on the 4th, I'm sure.
Better get back to work - it'll be a short day though. Closing the office at 2. First thing on my list when I get home: take a fucking nap. That'll subdue a cranky brat for certain.

I'm in a lyric-y mood - mood: sad and wishful
Y'know when you get the feeling that song lyrics are the only way to best express how you feel at the time? That feeling crept over me today. So here's a song for you. This is one of the most beautiful songs I've ever heard; it's the opening song from "Fruits Basket". That's Tohru, the main character, at the bottom of this entry. Leave it to me to post an anime theme song ^_^ but if you've heard it, you'll know it sounds so pretty and so sad all at once. Just the piano, a few violins, and her haunting voice. If you haven't heard it before, here's a
midi. The midi has a faster tempo than the actual song (which is deliberately slow and pretty), but it gives you an idea of the melody. I decided to skip posting the song's well-known English line; I have my reasons, guys. A rough English translation is provided for those of you who aren't fluent in
nihongo ;)

I was so happy
When you smiled at me, with
A smile that melts everything away.
Spring is still far away,
Inside the cold earth.
I was waiting for the first sprout to bloom.
Although today is hard to bear,
Even when yesterday's scars remain,
If I work it out with a heart that wants to trust...
I can't be born again
but I can change as I go on.
You smiled only for me
With that finger touching
The only wish is endless.
I want to be kind
Like a regrettable mis-step
Let's cross this sea of sadness together.
Although today is hard to bear,
Someday it will be a tender memory,
If I free everything in my heart.
I have a feeling I'll get an email or a tag telling me "
Genki dashite yo!", to which I'll reply "
Honto ni daijobu", but I'd be lying ^^

Which Fruits Basket Character Are You?

what a day - mood: drained
Woooo... just got back from Seattle. Nicole kept me company on the way home from Tacoma to Bremerton - I was on the Tacoma Narrows, and I thought, "hey, Nicole would
love to hear from me right now" so I gave her a call. Got to laugh about some of the silliest stuff; I'm sure everyoen else on the road thought I was crazy, especially the ones who couldn't see that I was on a cell phone. Oh well, they probably wouldn't want to cut off a crazy person, right? Anyway, got to see John today. I don't think I helped him much with packing, but I think we were happy to just be in the same room. Gave him his birthday present - "Mack Daddy" by Sir Mixalot :D He loves it! Soooo funny! I met him in person 6 months ago today. What a trip! It doesn't really feel that long. I'm glad we met though; he's taught me a lot and is a good friend.
So what am I doing for the 4th? Sleeping in, for one thing! It sucks that the office is closed though.. since I'm still a temp, I don't get paid holidays yet, so there goes another day that I can't be paid for. *phattie sigh* I'm sure this 4th will be like all the others; staying at home, watching my parents blow shit up on the driveway, trying to out-do the neighbors 2 houses down who drink heavily every year without fail. Gah, I need to come up with a new tradition soon, because that one sucks.
Haven't heard from the prospective landlady either, which is irksome. Dammit, we put down application fees, and today would've been the latest point in time that they would process our applications, according to what she said. You shouldn't make a promise if you can't freakin' keep it. So I'll have to call them up on Friday and find out if we're going to live there or not.
Tuesday, July 2nd, 2002 - 7:20pm
help me out, yo - mood: hopeful
Just put my PS1 up for auction on eBay; check it out if you're interested:

Comes with 3 controllers and 9 nine games, starting at $50 - damn good price if I do say so myself :D Some games go for more than $50, y'know!!
Tuesday, July 2nd, 2002 - 10:43am
relieved, hungry and ranting - mood: busy
Just walked by the Tech Support dept. on my way to drop off a new
sales order, when Adam called out to me: "So you're just going to walk
by without saying 'hello' to us? What's up with that?" :D I'm happy
to know that my presence here is acknowledged and wanted. I was getting
kinda worried during my first two months at this job - everyone is much
older than me (some of them have kids my age), and they've all been here
for years, so it's harder to make friends in a situation like that. So
yay! I have friends at work! Was invited by some of the ladies here to
go see the Ya-Ya Sisterhood movie, but I politely declined that offer.
Chick flicks like that are
so not my thing. I really have to be
in a mood to sit through one from beginning to end.
Someone in a neighboring cubicle is eating a yummy lunch.. I can smell
it and it's absolute torture. It'd be too early to eat anyway. At least
whatever she's eating doesn't smell nauseating, like someone's lunch last
week. :P Totally sick, in a bad way.
I'm happy that I made a friend living in my motherland! :D So you've been
to Baguio before, Yapi? I have pictures of me as a baby there on a weekend
trip, but you won't seem those pics posted here :) Are you familiar with where I
was born? The Navy base there closed down a long time ago, but I have a
feeling you may know about it. And now I know when the Philippines' Independence
Day is! How sad that most of us with Pinay parents raised in the States don't
know about that. I mean, we've got our Santo Nio statues in our houses, but
we honestly don't know much about our heritage. *shakes head* The only Pinay
actress you'll see in movies out here is Tia Carrere, and in Wayne's World, she
was cast as a
Chinese character! Damn, that burns me up! Moving on before I start
to rant about how Asians are always lumped together as if we were all the same...
So no word yet from our prospective landlady on how the applications turned out
for the apartment. I did get a chance to throw away a shitload of paper that I kept from school, although I don't know why I kept them all these years. I did keep some of my best term papers :D
especially the one I wrote for my Philosophy class. I'll post it here someday. I'm really proud of the work that went into that one. Hehe, I'll post it and you guys may just rip it to shreds :) or it'll be waaaay over your heads. Either way, sounds like fun. So now I have less crap to take with me when I finally move, and that's a good feeling. Now to get things boxed up...
Monday, July 1st, 2002 - 8:39pm
alright, alright - one last thing - mood: silly
Some of you have requested a recent pic of me to be posted (since I haven't seen you in a while, or I've never met you before ^_^), so here ya go. [see above; it used to be posted in this entry, but I hate redundancy] No more hiding behind cute anime pics! Some people tell me I look like an "exotic Christina Ricci", but I don't think so. I just look like me, that's all :) This was taken when my hair was its natural color. I'll have to post a pic when I get my roots re-dyed... yeah, I just let my secret out, but I think everyone knows that my blonde-on-black highlights aren't natural!! Oh yeah, here's your dorky inside-joke for the day: Pat said "beefy" :D BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!
Monday, July 1st, 2002 - 7:58pm
it's not just a brand.. it's a lifestyle - mood: excited
I'll end the day with a positive post. I came home to find a check in the mail (unexpected money is always good) and the newest issue of Abercrombie & Fitch Quarterly! YAY!!! There's something for
everyone in their catalogs, regardless of your preferences. All the boys and girls are so beautiful.. and mostly nude :D But of course, as would any normal girl after looking through a catalog like that, I want to magically shed 20 lbs. so I can reclaim my abs and rock-hard thighs. And please don't email me telling me that I'm "healthy" as I am. I know I've been leaner - my clothes tell me so! Gah, I always feel this way after trying on clothes at a mall.. fucking clothes aren't cut for people who eat on a regular basis. Anyway, back to the Quarterly (I said I'd be positive here..) This issue is a bit toned down compared to the one released in the summer, but still, the pics within are very
hot! They're done in an artistic fashion - erotic, yes, but not done in bad taste, IMHO. Illinois has been trying to
ban the quarterly now for quite some time! All I can say to that is: cope. Your kids are seeing, hearing, and experiencing much worse things, trust me. Oh, by the way, Carly - this issue has an interview and full page picture of Ash! Want it? :D
Monday, July 1st, 2002 - 4:10pm
the apple doesn't fall far from the tree.. - mood: annoyed
I was just checking the number of votes I got on BlogHop.com (thank you to those who voted ^_^ I feel so loved!) and I was checking out some of the new blogs posted. Found one by a chick in The Netherlands who was using some of the graphics from my blog
without linking back to me. I don't know if you're a stickler for 'netiquette, but I sure as hell am. Being a pirate is not cool at all! I at least have a link back to the original creator of this layout (see below, silly - thanks SpaceKitten!) All the words on this blog are of my own creation. I wonder if that chick took them too and just translated them into Dutch! Grrr.. so not cool. I still have a headache from earlier, so I may just be taking this too seriously. But still, it's just not respectable to take someone's work without giving them credit. That's just plain ol'
fucked up. *steps off soapbox and begins to sip a Vanilla Coke float*
Monday, July 1st, 2002 - 11:18am
Monday, Monday.. la, la, la-la, la - mood: busy
You can only have so much fun playing with spreadsheets in Excel, so
I decided to play with my blog instead :D Blogging at work has become
a bad habit of mine, but it hasn't compromised the quality of my work,
so let the bad habit continue! How many people can blog and get paid
at the same time? hehe, I'm so bad.
I've set a goal for myself this week - I'm going to throw away or donate
whatever I don't need, so I won't have to take things I don't need to my
new apartment. Loree and I should know by Wednesday how our applications
were processed - I'm so excited about my first move away from home! I'm
hoping that I won't ever have to
go back.. it'd be such a blow to
my pride. I can hear my mom saying "I told you so..." *shudder* I'll try
to accentuate the positive here though - I'm moving out :D
Yuck - I've got a sucky headache right now. I'd better post this and look
at something other than my computer.
