One of the richest regions of Italy, Emilia-Romagna is a gigantic treasure house filled with architectural gems and artistic masterpieces, with ancient and famous universities, and modern centres of artistic and cultural learning. In Bologna, the home of the most ancient Italian university (eleventh century), the monuments of great artistic value are truly countless. Here we shall mention just the two ancient spectacular towers of the Asinelli and the Garisenda, both leaning, and Piazza Maggiore, with its great medieval buildings, and the gothic duomo of S. Petronio, where Charles V was crowned emperor in 1530.Outside Bologna, you should not miss the Byzantine masterpieces of Ravenna, the medieval baptistery of Benedetto Antelami in Parma, the Tempio Malatestiano in Rimini, the Romanesque church of S.Mercuriale in Forlì, the ancient Palazzo comunale in Piacenza, the seventeenth-century Sanctuary of the Madonna della Ghiara in Reggio Emilia, the splendid Galleria Estense in Modena, or the harmonious and well-preserved historic centre of Ferrara. I portici che riparano e ombreggiano il
passeggio nelle vie del centro storico di Bologna; l'infinita, multicolore
distesa di ombrelloni sulle assolate spiagge romagnole. La città moderna,
dinamica, ricca, ma ancora capace di preservare il suo "volto umano",
e la lunghissima costa affollata di turisti richiamati dall'irresistibile
trinomio sole-mare-divertimento.
L'Emilia-Romagna è questa? Sì, è questa. E molto altro ancora, a cominciare
dal suo patrimonio storico, artistico e culturale: straordinario.
Regione tra le più prospere d'Italia, l'Emilia-Romagna è un gigantesco scrigno
colmo di gioielli monumentali e capolavori artistici, di antiche e famose
università, di moderni centri di formazione artistica e culturale.
A Bologna, sede della più antica Università italiana (XI secolo), sono davvero
innumerevoli i monumenti di grande livello artistico. Ricordiamo per tutti le
due antiche, spettacolari Torri degli Asinelli e della Garisenda, entrambi
pendenti, e Piazza Maggiore, con i suoi grandi edifici medievali, e il gotico
Duomo di S. Petronio, dove Carlo V fu incoronato imperatore nel 1530.
Fuori Bologna, da non mancare i capolavori bizantini di Ravenna, il Battistero

romanica chiesa di S.Mercuriale a Forlì, l'antico Palazzo comunale di Piacenza,
