MAGAGUADAVIC SIDING TO HARVEY STATION

Harvey Station is a quiet agricultural village 59 miles west of Saint John where the Fredericton to St. Stephen highway crosses the ICR mainline. West from Harvey the railway runs through heavily wooded countryside crossing Prince William Road and passing the isolated lakeside cottages of Magaguadavic Siding and the railway's major gravel pit in the Cap Hills.

n spite of its remote location Magaguadavic Siding, being the longest on the subdivision, can be a pretty busy spot when the long wheat box and container train extras are running fast and
FREDERICTON JUNCTION

West from the Douglas Valley the McAdam Subdivision switches from the St. John to the Oromocto watersheds, passes through Hoyt and then crosses the Oromocto River just befor entering Fredericton Junction. "The Junction" is a thriving lumber mill town 40 miles west of Saint John on the Island Central mainline. The major international mill here ships lumber by rail west bound to the U.S. as well as east bound through the FORTERM forest products terminal in West Saint John. Large quantities of wood chips are also produced at Fredericton Jct. for shipment by rail to the paper mill in Saint John. Setouts and pickups are made by thru freights at the Jet. and handled during the busiest seasons by a local switch crew. The ICR also interchanges with the N.B. Central to/from Fredericton, Oromocto, Nackawic and Chipman at nearby Tracy (Track 59).

The mainline continues on mostly straight track west from Tracy through Vespra and Rooth parallelled by unpaved route 645 most of the way. At Rooth the track crosses Yoho Stream and begins to climb the ruling grade on the McAdam subdivision. This grade is known as "Yoho Hill" by ICR crews. At Cork the line parallels the Lyons Stream and meadows to the south and just before the summit (Last Spike) it crosses over the stream heading for Harvey Station. The locals say that Yoho Hill is nothing to speak of but model railroaders know the way it really should be.
