Toe

I found this in an Op shop a few years back, thought it was interesting then forgot all about it. So imagine my surprise when I was watching Ricky Gervais on Letterman one saturday night (after an evening of seriously pissing on) to see Dave pull out a copy of this single and play it to him!
I was frantic, had I gotten rid of my copy in one of my culls to make room in my tiny little flat??? Happily the answer was no, and I now have the Ricky Gervais single to air from time to time. Tania, the woman who runs Seona Dancing .com says she's the ONLY fan, but she's already had 50,000 hits.
As Joe Bob Briggs would say,
"check it out"...

Hmmm,
in hindsight, I'm surprised at how long it's taken me to
put up a link to this wonderful compilation...
You
can tell from a brief look at the playlists that I love
this thing to death, and in fact I'm hoping to even be on
a later compilation.
At
last I have something to aspire to...
Update: Volume 2 is NOW OUT!
It's just as good as Volume One,
expect to hear a LOT of it!!!

As
I slowly rediscover my industrial music interests, I was
stoked when I was offered a copy of the new crash frequency
compilation, but was way cooler was the CD that came with
it. That was the debut CD for Sydney outfit Angelspit, "Nurse
grenade". The new CD "Krankhaus" is expected
in April and if it's anywhere near as good Nurse grenade,
then we're in for a treat

Friend,
80's buff and singer Sam has put together a really nice
website dedicated to her music and her trivia night @ the
Spot hotel in Brunswick.
It's on every Saturday night just
before the Band "Stand and deliver" perform their
80's retro covers. But you better get in early 'cos the
place packs out...
As Joe Bob Briggs would say,
"check it out"...
As
I slowly edge my way back into the music scene I recently
received an email from these really nice guys, which really
left me completely stoked! An E-Zine dedicated to the EBM
& Industrial music scenes (which is why the title's
pretty self explanatory really). Hopefully, I'll even have
a listing on it soon.
Though
I must admit to being a little envious that they've had
more hits in four months than I have in five years...

People
who know me have always known about my soft spot for industrial
music, especially electronic Industrial. Now that the Primary
Darkwave site seems to be folding, this site has become
more important than ever.
Best of all, I even met some way
cool people through this place, who came to see the RoboNERD!
gig.
This
is the website I've been LIVING in lately, I love it so
much!!! Looking for those old synth and drum sounds, but
don't know where to begin??? I GUARANTEE it, THIS is the
place... It inspired me so much, I'm redoing my entire
set from scratch!!!
Update: Hollowsun seems to be no longer giving away
the freebies,
just selling the CD Rom. Oh well, I guess the guy's gotta
eat...
Run
by a guy who worked for Akai for a fair while, these sounds
are primarily set up for Akai users (I wondered what the
AKP files were for), but if you own a sampler, just sample
them yourself and away you go... Downloadable as ZIP files
which become WAV files when unzipped, this site also has
a forum and a CD ROM you can buy to work in Reason.
You
gotta love a guy with a passion in life, and Tim Bray's
is everything Casio, incuding the Casio digital horn (Erasure
did use one briefly as well) and the Casio digital guitar
(which they made TWO different versions of).
Plus Casionova
was kind enough to appear one my show back in 2003 for the PBS FM Live
Music week, the recording of which I hope to re air in the
future from time to time.
FINALLY!!!
A great comprehensive site dedicated to the music we've
all grown to love over the years. Listed alphabetically,
with each html page dedicated to a letter of the alphabet.
Don't forget to check the links page for some great GIF
artwork as well that you can use on your site (Here's
a direct link to the
gif section, check it out)! Oh,
and the best part is, this is created by a FAN, not some
weird faceless Corporate identity that'll get rid of it
as soon as it's no longer expedient. You gotta check
it out, especially if you love Euro music!!!

It's
kinda hard to explain how cool this concept is... Two wierdass
Russian dudes get together back in 1968 (Apparently they
met in a MORGUE!!!), and decide they're gonna make art together.
Anyway, back in about '95 they put up an online survey asking
people what they liked and didn't like about music, everything
ranging from instrumentation to vocal styles to tempo and
much more and wrote two songs based on the survey results:
1)
The most wanted music (5.00 minutes)
2) The most unwanted music (21.59 minutes)
After
listening to these absolute gems (especially the most UNWANTED
music), this CD has totally redefined the way I listen to
music!!!
On
the CD they claim that less than 200 hundred people will like
"The most unwanted song". I've found about eight
so far
(including myself of course), I wanna know where the other
192 people are...
Want
a copy of your own??? I bought mine at Synaethesia records
I
was given a copy of this CD when I saw the band live at Bar
303 back in 2004. This is so cleverly put together
(made up mostly of documentary vocals, as well as samples
of people such as NIN, david bowie, Public Enemy, Eric Burdon). I
find it hard to resist playing it in full from time to time.
It gets a huge amount of home airplay, you gotta check it
out for yourself... There's also a
few other CDs including 2004's "Heroes".
As Joe Bob Briggs would say,
"check it out"...

I
think they'd kill me if I didn't put up a link (After
all I present for them)... Anyway, a HUGE variety
of music, from Punk to Jazz, from ambient to hip hop,
from Soul to Metal, it's all here for your perusal.
The
web site has recently been totally updated with lots of new
things for radiofans everywhere to check out, as the Program Pages, Goiveaways & Live streaming...
Former IrvineJUMP! Co-Host Josie
Parrelli nowdays has her own wildly successful Channel
31 TV show, Chartbusting 80's)!!! It's been going for several years now and surely has become an Institution in it's own right. I'm always intrigued by the fact that people either love or loathe the little box played during the clips with Josie dancing like a whirling dervish in them. In the
meantime, check out the show...
Thursdays at 9pm (live),
Repeated Saturdays at 10.30pm
Probably
best remembered (At least in this country) for their
first hit "Send me an Angel", These guys
are still around. And while many bands from
the 80's seem content to just rehash their hits, Real
life has moved on considerably!
1998's
"Happy" CD was to me easily their best yet
(ESPECIALLY the way cool remix of "Girl Jesus"
on the "Happier" CD, now sadly out of print). And
the best part is they've recorded new stuff, which
you can hear via the streaming links on their site!
Imperfection remixes (via "A different drum")
are now out as well!!!
Check
out the interview I did with them!
(Part
one)
& (Part
two)

From
the Models to Nina
Hagen to Einsturzende
Neubaten, this is a guy who's had a VERY interesting
career (except of course for the brief point in time
I worked with him, which must have bored
him shitless)! Anyway, Ash has a
new band called The
Tingler (with ex Crashland Vocalist
Lynn Gordon) and this site's designed to help promote
it... Have a squizz for yourself!

Firstly,
let me point out that the Human League are one of
my fave bands of ALL TIME, right up there with John
Foxx (see below) and D.A.F (also see below).
Their
last CD "Secrets" (2001) is the best in
20 years & they are also a HUGE influence on me
musically, though there are times that you'd never
guess it in a billion years!!! Now
that there is NO Official website for the Human League,
it's up to the fan sites to keep up their interest!
Fortunately, there are some wonderfully designed websites
dedicated to the Leaguesters and here some links to
some of them...
I
know the story of the Human League is one of triumph
over tragedy,
but WHY does this shit ALWAYS seem to happen to them?
Blind
Youth
That said, you gotta check out some other Human League
related sites such as the AWESOME Blind Youth website
(which has copies of VERY early Human League DEMOS to download), and this (from MEMORY) is the site that's
selling the compilation "The Golden hour of The
Future", a compilation of lost and early recordings
(most of it PRE Fast Product even). A MUST for true
fans.
Human
League Yahoo Group
One way around setting up a fan site, without actually
going to the hassle of creating one I guess is to have
a yahoo group set up about them. You
may wanna consider joining (You KNOW I did).
The
League Online
I'm not actually certain what the address
for this wonderful site is (So I may have fucked it
up), but I promise that the Millisecond I work it out
I'll post it here (If of course the link doesn't work)!!!

Okay,
here's one from far away Leftfield...
Today's
question is:
What's
the link between Solo Acoustic performer
Penelope Swales & Mr
Technocrat 1981 - 2006 (Inclusive).
You'll
just have to check out the link and see if you can work
it out! When or if that fails, maybe you can email
one of us and if we're nice we'll tell you about it
sometime... :-)
Oh
and don't forget to check out her
current CD "Monkey Comfort"...

This
is the place I got my start in, waaaaay back in 1981,
back in the days when it was still called 5 MMM)!
Maybe
I shouldn't be saying how far back
(It kind of gives me away as an Incredibly old fart!)...
In
the five years I was there I THINK I did evry show
available, including breakfast, the schools programme
(S.C.A.R.P), and even the programme dedicated to the
unemplyemployed (1 in 10). Occasionally,
on those RARE instances where I go back to Adelaide
bbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbo visit, people I know say they heard my Demo (No
mean feat since it was recorded in 1985!)...

Now
here is a beautiful looking site, not only highlighting
John Foxx's talent as a Musician, but also as an Artist.
"Underpass"
is my favourite song of all time (Followed closely by
DAF's "Ein bisschen krieg"). Even after
22 years, this song is as strong as ever. Though
I strongly prefer Metamatic to his other works that
I've heard (though since I haven't hard anything from
the 90's I have heaps to look forward to), there are
fantastic songs in nearly everything he did!
Don't
forget to check out his NEW CD, "Crash & Burn"

YAAAAAY,
they reformed (Again), with a new CD which came out
in April 2003!!! I've been playing the single
"Der Sherriff" to death! What can I say?
It FUCKING ROCKS...
A
former six piece Electro punk outfit who suddenly morphed
into a DUO!!! While Underpass may be my fave song,
these guys are my fave band!!! What's not to like???
(Though apparently they're quite scorned in some sections
of Germany). The
singer sang, the drummer drummed and the machines were
all on tape! They put out three LP's in 18 months
and then fell into bitter feud mode... Pity really,
as they were the archetype for later way cool 80's/90's
acts such as Front
242, Nitzerebb and waaaaay cool heavy rock outfit Rammstein!
Interesting
to note that a reliable source says that ALL their sequences
were in fact done by Christlos Haas (R.I.P), one time
member of Crime and the City Solution.
Wearing more leather than ANY animal that leather comes
from, their mostly sex based lyrics, their refusal to
sing in anything other than German fascinates me still.
Oh and when I was 18 I wanted to BE Robert Görl... NOW
I just wish I could fit into all that leather... It's
taken me FOREVER, but I FINALLY found the official website
(In a Google search for the full title Deutsch Amerikanishe freundschaft,
it came up as 300th in a list of 446 websites)! But,
like their recordings, it's in German, with NO english
translations. But for a quick history of DAF, feel
free to click here!!!
