Nothing was easy for Caleb Forger. His mother died before he was a year old, leaving him with a somewhat-distracted father with a fourteen-hour job. His great-grandmother, Jenny, cared for him for a long time. Raphael married an Englishwoman named Bianca, who was fond of Caleb until his disability became apparent. Caleb was deaf, though not mute. He struggled to express himself to his step-mother, who always treated him as little more than a family dog and regarded him as mentally retarded.
Quite the opposite, Caleb was an intellegent boy who was able to come up with his own hand gestures for words even before he started a deaf school at the age of five. He was six when Bianca finally won and he and his great-grandmother were installed in another apartment. However, he still spent a great deal of time with his younger half-brother Jonathon and Raphael, though he didn't see Crystianne again after moving out when she was still only a few months old.
Caleb progressed quickly in school and he and his doctor father would often spend long afternoons together as Raphael tried to find some way of curing his son of the deafness that afflicted him. Caleb didn't have any trouble with his studies or making friends and by the time he graduated from school had a clear idea that he wanted to go into physics. Getting into college was much harder, especially when he recieved word that his father died when he was eighteen.
Caleb worked hard and got himself into college, graduating with honors from a field in physics. However, before he could accept a job as a teacher's aide in New York, he was kidnapped by a terrorist group known as the Dublin Wonderland Gang. He was taken to Scotland where he met the Mad Hatter face to face. He saw his father, alive, and a captive member of the gang, which despite the horrific circumstances, was a great releif to him. He was tortured and left for dead in the hovel when Conor Donnovan, Timothay, and a couple of CIA agents found him. He returned to the United States and spent several weeks in varying hospitals and physical therapy before he was able to leave. Levi Goldheim, one of the agents who had found him, suggested Caleb might be safer in California, near where Levi lived.
Caleb moved to Los Angeles, began teaching science in one of the highschools, and helped his new CIA friends as much as possible in trying to locate his father and free him from the Dublin Wonderland Gang once more. |
