| Bianca Morgan was born in London and grew up as the only child of the wealthy Morgans. Her father managed a bank and she learned to handle money early as a result. Her childhood was almost fairy-princesslike, consisting of singing, music, and dance lessons, boarding school, performing for her parents' guests at parites, and owning a collection of grand dresses. She was the most popular in her clique of girlfriends and took a great many trips over England, even up into Scotland several times. She decided to go to college in America and came to New York where she met Raphael Forger right after her graduation from a four-year course. She had a good job as an accountant for the hospital where he worked, she was twenty-four, he was twenty-eight and had lost his first wife two years previously. He had a young son named Caleb, and though there was no great attraction between them, pressure from his grandmother kept him dating her and her parents delight in her marrying a young, rich American doctor kept her interested. They were married, but when she moved in with him she found things less than satisfactory. The little boy was deaf, and Bianca became convinced that he was retarded. Raphael's grandmother also lived in the apartment and Bianca utterly hated the woman. They hadn't been married for a year when their first son, Jonathon Andrew, was born. Bianca latched onto this son and began a steady barrage of pestering for her husband to get his grandmother and Caleb out of the apartment. It wasn't until after their second child, a daughter named Crystianne, that she finally succeeded in getting Jenny and Caleb out of their apartment. Several years went by, the two of them were making a great deal of money and eventually moved into a large Brownstone in a rich neighborhood. She disliked her daughter but showered affection on Jonathon. After sixteen years of marriage, however, on Crystianne's thirteenth birthday, policement came and gave her the news that Raphael had been killed in a car accident. Remarkably unaffected by this, she made calm arrangements to the funeral, even hauling her hysteric daughter to the funeral. Over the next few years, she concentrated on getting Jonathon through school and paid even less attention to her increasingly more rebellious daughter. When Crystianne was seventeen, Bianca took a trip to England to see her parents. Her father was in the hospital and not expected to live. She remained in England for several weeks, also attending his funeral after he died. When she returned to America, she was informed by the police of a great deal of trouble Crystianne had gotten into during her absence. Furious, Bianca had thrown her out of the house. When Jonathon, who had been on a school trip, returned to find out that his sister had been kicked out, he and Bianca got into their first real argument. Then he told her he and some friends were planning a road trip and spent the summer with them, so she assumed (she didn't know that he and Crys were really driving out west). Over the next few years, Jonathon kept trying to convince Bianca and Crystianne to make peace with no success. Bianca, proud of her son's success as a lawyer, had no interest in her 'failure of a daughter' and, now retired, is content to remain in the Brownstone with Jonathon coming to call every evening for tea and dinner. |
