| June 10th, 2003 What the heck's a Big Wet? Wow, I'm starting to think this is the Rolf and Chinatsu club. Check out the latest buzz about them. I know what you're thinking, "I want to be on the website!" Well then, get outdoors. Take some pictures and send them to me. Maybe you can be on the cover next month. Did you know we have a page of links for accommodations in the Kansai area? It's a little out of date right now. So this month please send me all the web links you have for accommodations in Japan. I'll put them together and next month it will be ready for everyone to enjoy. Hmmmm, my summer vacation is coming up and I haven't figured out what to do. But lately the warm beaches of Okinawa have been calling to me. Have you been in that neighborhood recently? Don't keep it all to yourself, let us all know about your favorite beaches on the Message Board. Or better yet, maybe you'd like to be a speaker at a future IOC meeting. No pressure. Really. Just think about it. June Word From the Prez It is easy enough to hike with an umbrella, or it may be a good excuse to try out that rain gear you seldom get a chance to use. <Go There> Upcoming Events Hi everybody, did you all have an enjoyably active Spring? This year's Big Wet has officially started I think, so here's hoping it rains on weekdays only for the next month! There are still some spaces on the event calendar towards the end of June, so why not use the message board to set up some short-notice activities if the weather looks like it's going to be ok. Then come mid-July we're into the summer - anyone interested in a weekend at the beach somewhere? Or a trip to the mountains to escape the heat? If so, let's talk at this month's meeting on Saturday, or on the message board. - Chris For full details visit the website. The calendar is always changing so check back often for updates and additions. June 14th | Saturday IOC Meeting Time: Newcomers welcome at 18:00. Regular members come at 18:30. See the map for directions to get there ____________________________________________________ June 15th | Sunday Nara-Yamano Benomichi Hike * Enjoy a mild 14-kilometer hike in the foothills. We will hike from Sakurai to Tenri, a religious city with Tenri-kyo headquarters. Along this ancient trail, there are some graceful remains of ancient Japan making you conjure up the ancient environment of poetical works of Kojiki and Manyo anthology, such as Omiwa shrine, Su-jin tumulus burial (the second biggest tumulus mound in Japan), and Isokami shrine.
