This is Bagheera
This is my honey-girl, Bagheera (Gheeri for short). If you hadn't noticed already, her name comes from The Jungle Book. Bagheera was the black panther that watched over Mowgli. She looks black in photos, but she is a Havana Brown, and in Natural lighting you will clearly see she is not black, but a rich, mahogony brown color. She is very affectionate and needy, but DOES NOT like to be picked up. I was working at the local Humane Society when I saw her and her purrsonality just reached out for me. She had been 8 months old and pregnant when she came to the shelter as a stray, and was going to be put down because everyone wanted the kittens (it breaks your heart when you work there and know EXACTLY whats happening to who and when). When I brought her home, you could tell she had never been in a house before.
She didn't know what anything was! But she soon discovered the likes of the refridgerator, the couch, and our personal favorite, the shower. I don't mean that she likes it. Quite the opposite. The first time I took a shower with her in the house, she cried like some one was killing her. I stepped out to see what was wrong and she stopped. I got back in, and the crying commenced, so I just poked my head out and asked her what was wrong. To answer me, she reached out and grabbed my hand with her paw, and when I was close enough, she took a finger gently in her mouth and TRIED TO PULL ME OUT OF THE SHOWER!!! It was so cute, and my fiance didn't believe me until he took a shower the next morning. All I heard was,"Honey? The cat is trying to save me from the shower!". I could just die. Over a few months, she decided that although SHE would not go in it, it wasn't bad for us, and let us shower peacefully. We brought home a Maine Coon Kitten next, an absolute LOVE, who had Upper Respiratory, and Gheeri decided she was going to be his foster mom. We named him Meeko (also from a Disney cartoon, Pocahontus), and they became best friends. Meeko was stolen from us about 7 months ago, and we searched high and low, offered a reward, and went door-to-door, but to no avail. Someone had to have taken him. After all, he was so loving and was such a trusting gentle giant. He was going to be 3 years old. Gheeri missed him, but now she probably doesn't remember. She doesn't know how lucky she is. I wish I could forget the pain... Anyhow, Gheeri has many quirks: When you give her treats, the first one must be placed on the floor. If they are the kind that she REALLY likes (Greenies liver flavor), then she will take them by hand.
Gheeri takes after her daddy...
If they are so-so, they must go on the floor as well. Also, when we get home, she will bolt out the door. Don't worry, we always catch her. She's not slow... she ALWAYS stops to chew on grass. Also (and I'm speculating that this has to do with her past before she came to us), she HATES dogs. I mean REALLY hates them. Shortly after we got her, we acquired a Bull Terrier puppy. If anyone knows about these dogs, you know that they are tenacious, energetic, and hot-tempered. We named him Diesel, and brought him home. As soon as he hit the floor, Gheeri ran up to him and smacked him right in the nose. I mean, she was in the other room, and specifically came in to terrorize him!!! Even up to the point were we had to give him up at 9 months old (he was too nippy, and we could not curb him of it), she beat on him like a high scool bully. Now, she picks on my future mother-in-laws' dog, Lady, a Shih-Tzu mix, still bigger than her, but the dog enjoys it. She even eggs Gheeri on. But occasionally, in the middle of the night, you'll hear a sharp YIPE from the dog.... Serves her right....Gheeri is the Queen of the house!!!
