Now, basically, the story is about a 15 year old Japanese girl named Kagome(Ka-go-may) that gets taken by a demon into this well in the back of her families' home where she lives with her mother, grandfather, brother, and of course her calico cat, Buyo. The well travels into the feudal era of Japan, 500 years ago.The demon is after the Jewel of Four Souls, which is unknowingly inside her. The villagers mistake her for a priestess named Kikyo (Keek-yo) who died 50 years ago triying to protect it, and was cremated alongside it. Apparently, both Kikyo's soul and the Jewel were reincarnated into Kagome. While in the Feudal Era, Kagome stumbles upon a huge tree with a boy pinned to it with an arrow through his heart. The boy has long silvery hair, with matching....DOG-EARS!!! She feels sorry for him, but soon gets attacked by the demon again and while trying to escape it, the villagers come to her rescue, but to no avail, along with their head Priestess, Kaede (Ki-a-day) who happens to be Kikyo's sister. At the same time, the boy stuck to the tree awakens and tells Kagome to pull the arrow out. She resists, but the demon attacks her and slashes her body, and the jewel goes flying. She is astounded, never knowing such a thing was inside her, and the boy tells her that the demon will now get more powerful and if she wants to live, she must release him. Kaede yells for her to not release him, but she tries anyways. The arrow won't budge, but soon a light comes from Kagomes' body, and the arrow vanishes. The boy instantly goes after the demon, and slashes it with his claws, his signature move, the Iron Reaver Soul Stealer (in Japan, it is Claws of Steel). He then turns on Kagome, and yells at her that he can't believe the almighty Kikyo couldn't finish that demon by herself, and Kagome gets angry that he's calling her by another womans' name. Kaede introduces him as InuYasha, the son of a Demon father and human mother. As they finish the first of many, many, MANY fights, InuYasha tries to kill Kagome, but Kaede puts a magical necklace on him and asks Kagome to choose a word to control him with. Being that he's half dog, she chooses "SIT" and he splats on the ground. So, now she is immune to his attacks and they are bonded together. Kagome winds up shattering the jewel while its high in the air with a bow and arrow, and it is scattered about the countryside. InuYasha wants the jewel for himself, because it used to be Kikyos', and he now hates her for putting him to sleep at the tree. So he wants the jewel to become all demon, whereas when he and Kikyo where in love, he wanted it to become all human. But as they go searching for the shards of the jewel, and recover them, they grow fond of each other, and eventually fall in love, which InuYasha will never admit, although it is clear. He also will still have feelings for Kikyo, when he finds out it actually wasn't her that shot him. They also grow larger as a hunting party. First comes Shippo, a young boy fox demon, whose parents were killed, and Kagome takes him on as her charge. Then they meet Miroku, a young monk who has an eye for the ladies, and has a black-tunnel type hole in his hand that was put there as a curse, and follows each generation, Miroku being the current generation, all before him swallowed up by their growing black holes. Miroku seeks the demon that placed the curse on his family, Naraku. They also meet Sango, a young woman from a family of demon slayers that was betrayed, her whole family killed by her younger brother, who had been possed at the time. She is tricked into believing it was InuYasha, tries to kill him, is defeated, then learns it was Naraku. Sango has a demon cat named Kirara (Kee-la-la) that, in a puff of flames, changes from horse-sized, to house-cat sized. Later, InuYasha and Kagome learn it was also Naraku that took Kikyo's form and pinned him to the tree, as well as taking InuYasha's form to kill Kikyo. So they all go in search of the shards, and Naraku, who also wants to get his hands on the complete jewel. Things get worse when a witch brings Kikyo back to life by making her out of the ashes of her gravesite. Complicated, huh? Trust me, theres LOTS more... Thats just backstory. This story has been going strong for 10 years now in Japan, and we are awaiting word that they will continue to translate and air Seasons 7 and up, because the Anime ends at Season 6!!!
