BY DREAD AS VENOM
Heatwave was an
unlikely member of the X-Corps, there to clear her record and make sure
they didn't kill her mother in an Institute. There was another force at
work then...
Venom,
the Lethal Protector. He was watching over innocent people in the
Resistance; normal folks who weren't fighters, but wanted out of
Onslaught's "peaceful" world. She was sent after Venom due to her heat
based powers. They angaged in combat, and Venom sensed the mercy in her
heart and the innocence in her eyes, and vowed not to hurt her. He was
nearly killed escaping from her heat bubble, and went back to his HQ. Once
there, he met a troubled youth named
Jack Wallace, who had
psychic powers, and a past littered with violence and vengence. They
planned to try to recruit Heatwave to their side, since Venom sensed her
good heart. The two also become friends.
Meanwhile, in the X-Mansion, Heatwave was joined by
Exodus, a former
Acolyte and second in command of Magneto's forces, as well as a master
psychic and pisonic with unknown limits. He berated her for her failure,
and vowed to bring Venom in by himself. After Venom trashed a trooper-base
to attract Heatwave's attention, with Jack hding elsewhere. Instead,
Exodus arrived and battled Venom. He had the creature beaten, until Venom
snuck into the sewers, grabbed him with a tendril, and slammed him onto a
manhole cover. Jack then went into her head to convince her, and they had
to face Exodus on the Astral Plane. Jack was overpowered, but Venom KO'd
Exodus fully and saved them. The X-Corp teleported away.
Venom, seeing as Jack and Heatwave were
two young teenagers, allowed them to walk home together while he patrolled
the area one last time. It was then that he happened upon a young Morlock
named
Doctor Worm, who was
being followed by a few troopers. He dropped one with a well thrown knife
to the neck, but ate a bullet in the leg and would have been killed or
captured had Venom not saved him. Venom brought the mutant to the HQ, for
rest and to mend his wounds.
Heatwave revealed why she had worked for the X-Corps and tried to capture
Venom. The symbiote hero decided to rescue her mother at an Institute.
Venom snuck in and found the woman, but eventually was noticed and started
a bit of a "jailbreak", one of the prisoners being Mary Jane, the wife of
Spider-Man. Exodus arrived at the Institute and teleported Venom to a
specific battleground of his choosing. Venom landed two well placed
punches, but Exodus was gaining the upper hand when Jack, who had arrived
from a battle with some troopers at the Institute (Heatwave battled a few
men, too) and tried to fight against Exodus, who had just nearly beaten
Venom with a "pisonic shockwave" that leveled a neighborhood to dust. He
performed a second one out of spite, since the two were managing to defeat
him (Jack distracted him while Venom grabbed his neck). He released a
second, more powerful shockwave, and Venom took the brunt of it for Jack,
nearly dying in the process.
While Jack ventured into Venom's mind to try to get him out of a coma-like
state (a feat that would temporarily drive him mad), Exodus decided to use
Cerebro to enhance the range and potency of his powers. He also gained a
new ally,
Rayden Kallack, the
son of Gladiator. Exodus lured Heatwave into a trap with an illusion, and
was beating her from the Mansion. She was able to escape, but was weakened
from the effort. Venom arrived to help, and encountered Rayden. Venom
taunted Rayden as he got hammered, unknowingly triggering Rayden to lose
confidence eventually. After temporarily stunning Venom with an intense
beam, Rayden shrugged off attacks from Jack, Heatwave, and Doctor Worm,
and defeated the mutant girl with a crushing blow to her heat-shield.
Venom then woke up, hindering Rayden's confidence, and KO'd him. In the
meanwhile, Jack engaged in an Astral Plane duel with the enhanced Exodus,
and avoided death by sending his psyche deep into it's mists, a fate that
was simular to death. A new X-Corp, a teen in armor calling himself
Neo-Doom, arrived on
the scene, and tried to battle Worm and Venom; the former displaying a new
"sonic beam" attack.
Cyclops, now fueled
with the Super Soldier Serum and an arm covered in the same metal Cap's
shield is made of, arrived, as well. They rescued Rayden and escaped, as
Venom and Worm made a hasty retreat with their unconscious allies, too.
Jack would have been lost in that abyss if not for
Dr. Strange, former Sorceror Supreme, happening
by and saving him from it. When he returned, his hair and eyes had changed
colors, and his powers somewhat increased. Worm, feeling left out and
underpowered, as well as having an urge to find his own kind, ran off into
the sewers in search of more Morlocks; of home. Eddie Brock followed his
friend, who seemed to want to be left alone.
Meanwhile, in the X-Mansion, the X-Corps were all locking heads; each one
wanting to call the shots and not take orders from the other. Exodus had
read Heatwave's mind and knew where the Resistance HQ was, but they
decided to attack the lone Doctor Worm in the sewers, hoping to defeat him
quickly before his allies could arrive(also, an act of retaliation, since
Dr. Strange used a spell to blow up Cerebro). While Cyclops, Neo-Doom, and
Exodus ventured into the sewers, Rayden was told to watch from above. Worm
wondered aimlessly, with Venom and Jack trying to follow, and watch over
him. The trio ran afoul of the X-Corps, and after Jack's attack was
nullifyed by Exodus and Cyclops, Venom broke a steam pipe and double
clothelined Neo-Doom and Exodus, temporarily KO'ing the latter. Cyke
rescused Exodus while Neo-Doom went in another direction. Exous later
awoke and teleported away, leaving Cyclops alone to battle Venom, a fight
he lost very quickly. The Lethal Protector stuck him in a big web, to lure
other X-Corps to him and away from Worm, who was being talked back to his
senses by Jack.
Above, Dr. Strange and Heatwave arrived on the scene, and encountered
Rayden. The battle between the Shi'Ar warrior and the master magician was
intense, as they went blow-for-blow, Rayden's confidence rising with each
"Battle Spell" Strange activated. It was then that Strange unleashed a
lightening storm on Rayden, which didn't harm him but damaged the
surrounding area. The two got engaged in a debate, Strange wanting to turn
him over to the Resistance. Being unsuccessful, Strange trapped Rayden in
a magic bubble, and when he still refused to see the wisdom in Strange's
words, was banished back to Shi'ar space.
Another force entered the fray, in the form of
Carnage, symbiotic
serial killer and the arch-foe of Venom. Escaping the pyromaniac Jack in
the sewers, he met with Venom, who had been battled to a standstill by
Neo-Doom, who offered Carnage a membership in the X-Corps, since Venom was
on the Resistance and his friends would only aid him. Carnage gave no
reply as the two fought each other heartilly (re: a 46 post battle, in all).
Venom had made Carnage angered, and punted him into a building when he
swung away to meet with his friends Jack and Worm below, who had met two
other fighters; the demonic
GhostRider002 and
Thermal. Carnage
didn't like the odds and split, heading for the Mansion. At this time,
Cyclops was cut down by a young mutant girl named
Cobweb, who had been
homeless and was confused by it all. Cyclops offered her a place in the
Mansion, which she accepted.
GhostRider and Thermal had thier own little adventure before meeting Jack
and Venom. They arrived at the Resistance HQ while Exodus was attacking it
(he killed 2 civilians and was trashing the place). Thermal was rendered
unconscious by a sudden outburst of new mutant powers, and GhostRider002
was just plain tossed with TK. Doctor Worm arrived as well, wounding
Exodus with a knife. The X-Corp transported him to the George Washington
Bridge, where he impaled Worm on his own spear and sent him into the drink,
killing him.
Back at the Mansion, Cobweb had an interesting evening. Kristoff Von Doom
was flirting with her, she was stunned by the new member
Juggernaut, and
Carnage was creeping her out. Plus, Exodus going into her head for a
moment. She and Kristoff talked for hours, while Carnage and Juggernaut
drank beer and broke things in a Danger Room sim (which Cyke tryed to
sabotage, since he hated Carnage).
However, Worm was not dead. The demon Mephisto made him into an undead
creature that controlled earth and needed fresh brains to survive, and
unleased him back onto the world, controlling him. While Dr. Strange
gathered the others, Thermal felt bad about failing Worm, and Venom was
distressed at the loss of a woman (one killed by Exodus). Venom, while
trying to sleep, encountered the Mephisto-controlled Worm in a building,
and hesitated to battle his revived friend. Later, Worm battled Mephisto
in the Astral Plane with Jack, and they drove the evil from his body.
Exodus popped up for a second, learning of Worm's speedy ressurection.
Both teams had a fitful sleep.
The next day, the X-Corps were again in disorder. Exodus wanted to ambush
Venom into a trap by using his friend Beck as bait, Neo-Doom wanted to
focus on Dr. Strange, and Cyclops hated the fact that Carnage was allowed
in their home, and set out to train Cobweb, telling the others he'd have
no part of their scheme. Carnage, angered by Exodus' arrogance and thier
plans to battle Venom, he ran off and engaged in a killing spree. Exodus
and Juggernaut followed, while Neo-Doom spoke to Cobweb and then improved
his armor and learned a "healing" spell. Cobweb learned from Cyclops very
quickly.
Venom arrived to battle Carnage, but instead had to face Juggernuat and
Exodus, who held Beck hostage. During the fray, Rayden, back from the
Shi'ar and hundreds of times more powerful, interuppted a brawl with the
Juggernaut and attacked Venom, having him at his mercy with his horrible
speed and strength. However, disturbed by the destruction caused by Exodus
and Carnage in their attempt to kill Venom, Rayden released him and left
Earth, seemingly forever. Thermal decided to battle Carnage, and Doctor
Worm and Dr. Strange arrived to battle the Juggernaut. Neo-Doom arrived as
well. Jack Wallace tried to dare Exodus into a battle, as well as wanting
to save his hostage. As he and Exodus had a painful psychic duel, Venom
snuck up on the X-Corp, KO'ing him and saving Beck. Neo-Doom left to save
Exodus from dying after landing a shot on Strange. Carnage was facing both
Thermal and Venom, and a new ally,
Couger, had arrived
to fight the Juggernaut, who was shrugging off the best efforts of both
Worm and Jack, who were both exhusted from the effort.
Teleporting Exodus back to the Mansion, Kristoff chatted with Cobweb for a
bit, and they met
Dark Beast, who'd
just arrived. Cyclops was planning to go back to collect Juggernaut before
he was overwhelmed.
Gambit, who'd just
arrived, joined Cyclops, Exodus and Dark Beast as they went back for
Juggernaut, who was being immobolized by
Marduk (a new member
of the Resistance) for Venom to make a try at his helmet. Cyclops fired a
few blasts, incurring Strange's wrath. He summoned an energy elemental to
attack him, but Exodus teleported it to China. Dark Beast bit Venom with a
poisonous bite seconds before Exodus teleported them all away from the
Resistance; Carnage listening to Exodus' words and heading for the Mansion
himself.
Currently, The Resistance rests in a new base (which Exodus had knowledge
of, thanks to a link with Jack during their duel), and Carnage is running
amok in the Mansion (while some of Neo-Dooms robots repair Cerebro). After
being subdued by Exodus, the X-Corps had a vote as to whether or not to
let him in, and he was given the nod by Exodus, Gambit, Dark Beast, and
the Juggernaut. Neo-Doom wanted no part of it, instead wanting to focus on
the emotionally distraught Cobweb.
It was at that point that Onslaught made himself present, and gave them a
mission.
Meanwhile, Dr. Strange feels that he is tired of hiding, and turns their
run-down warehouse into a stunning fortress, saying that the only way
change is going to happen is for them to make a public stand. Brock,
prefering the stealth approach, disagrees while Marduk seemed impressed by
the surroundings, as well as chatting with Jack and Couger. Strange later
received word that a New Cerebro machine was being brought in by train,
and Venom swung off to stop it.
The X-Corps went out to safeguard the shipment, since their old Cerebro
was destroyed by a spell from Dr. Strange. Exodus used his mental powers
to control Cyclops, and focussed the battle on Venom, while Neo-Doom
actually delivered the machine. Venom engaged in brief combat with Gambit,
and was winning when Exodus entered the fray, seeking to capitalize on
Venom's poisoned state by wearing him out. Using his mental power, he had
a passenger train on a collision course with this one, which was being
derailed by a tired but very angry Jack. With the young mutant's aid,
Venom was able to stop the train by brute force; an act that nearly killed
him. Carnage and Juggernaut had him ripe for the picking, when Cobweb,
moved by Venom's words and seeing just how ruthless the X-Corps were,
switched sides, aiding him and Jack in the battle. Venom caught a lucky
break, hurling Juggernaut away and gagging Exodus with webbing. The
choking Exodus teleported the X-Corps back, since their overall mission
succeeded anyway, as Jack brought Venom and Cobweb home.
Back at the Mansion, Carnage was angered that Exodus dragged him away from
a certain victory, and Neo-Doom was angered by Cobweb's absence. Onslaught
then used the machine to find their base (which Exodus knew about, anyway)
and ordered the X-Corps to kill the Resistance, but to bring Cobweb and
Dr. Strange alive. Carnage was unwilling to work with them, but was
pressured by Exodus' powers to compromise.
A mysterious message again entered Strange's mind, as he was resting and
aiding a wounded Worm, and Jack was getting some much needed rest. Warning
the others of the incoming attack, Venom suggested that Strange take the
others back to his Sanctum Supreme, while he stay and keep the X-Corps
busy, a plan that was noble but seemed like suicide (perhaps stemming from
Brock's emotional state). Cobweb was chatting with some of the other
members when she awoke, after being injured earlier by Exodus. Brock was
only able to talk with her briefly before they were seperated, much to
Marduk's dismay.
The X-Corps attacked
en masse', first
allowing Carnage to enter. Venom melded symbiotes with him, transfering
the virus (some of it) to Kasady, weakening him for a time. Senseing his
failure, the X-Corps charged in, and began whittling the symbiote down.
They would have succeeded if not for the sudden appearance of
Crimson, a symbiote
girl of unknown origins. The Resistance heard of the attack, and arrived
to aid their ally; Marduk, Jack, Thermal (who had returned from a
disappearance with newfound cyborg powers), and eventually Cobweb and
Doctor Worm, who had now recovered via magic and had new powers again.
Venom gravelly injured Dark Beast after being bitten again, as Crimson
focussed on Gambit and Carnage. Exodus and Jack squared off, eventually
being teleported elsewhere, and Marduk squared off with Rayden, who had
been ordered to Earth by the Shi'ar, as Thermal was the underdog in a
brawl with the Juggernaut.
The battle was interupted by a new X-Corp called
Golem, who battered
Venom badly and caused the buiding to collapse. The battle ceased for a
time, and Cobweb left to be alone, Crimson to confort her new friend; the
girl (named Erin Taylor) not trusting Venom much and having a rough life.
The two were joined by Thermal, and had an uneasy chat with Carnage before
Cobweb broke off again, running afoul of Neo-Doom. Although he still had
feelings for her, he tricked her and beat her with a sonic ray,
delievering her to Cyclops who brought her to the Mansion with Dark Beast.
But, Venom had clung to the Blackbird, and was risking his very life in a
mission to try to save the girl.
Gambit and Juggernaut, along with Neo-Doom, were ordered by Cyke to
capture Strange and to beat any rebels they could. Thermal and Gambit
engaged in combat, the battle surely going Thermal's way had Gambit not
tricked him and blown him nearly in two. Luckily, as Juggernaut entered
the brawl, Crimson and Worm arrived as Back-up. The battle rages on....
