~*INTERNET CHRISTIANS*~

Hey!! This is the first edition of "INTERNET CHRISTIANS"!!!

Thank you so much for subscribing to this newsletter!!

Today we will focus on forgiveness

~~~FORGIVENESS~~~
1st John 1:9-
If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins.
And cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
This verse is saying, that is we confess our sins to God; he will forgive us no matter how big the sin may be, and cleanse our lives of it. Now you may ask, "How can God forgive me for such a terrible sin that I have done?" well that’s an easy answer, God loves you so much that he doesn't want you to have a burden on your shoulders. He will take that nasty ugly sin of yours and throw it away and never remember it again.
The devil may bring it up and make you feel guilty about it but stand strong against him.
I will tell you in the next newsletter "How to defeat the fiery darts of the wicked one."
If you have something that you have been feeling really bad about doing, you can just say this simple prayer-
"God, I have done a terrible sin I am sorry please forgive me for ________.
Please cleanse me from unrighteousness and clean my heart today.
Thank you, Amen.
Ephesians 6:16-17
Above all taking the shield of faith wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked one.
And taking the helmet of salvation and the sword of the spirit which is the word of God
~
Why we need the shield of Faith-
God provides the Faith (its a gift remember??) ((Ephesians 2:8-9))
We have to reflect the faith of Christ in our lives.
Even though all the other armor is in place the soldier still needs the shield for that final piece of protection The verse says that the shield of faith is there to quench the fiery darts of the wicked one.
The wicked one is Satan. The fiery darts are those little things that just bug us to death, make us angry, sad, discouraged and so on.
All those little things that make you do things you know you shouldn't do. Paul wrote that we need the shield to quench the fiery darts. Isn't it interesting that he didn't say to quench the cannon balls and machine gun bullets?? Think about it. When BIG things happen, do you instantly depend on the Lord??
"Lord, Dad was in a car accident last night. The car was totaled, but he wasn't hurt. Thank you." "Lord, when Larry asked me to his party I said 'no' I knew he would get into his father's bar and the guys were planning on getting drunk. Thanks for giving me the courage to say 'no.'"
But then your faced with the "little" things, the fiery darts, and you fall apart "No one will talk to me!" "I'm having a bad hair day!" or "I fell out of the canoe today. I'm sooooo embarrassed. I'll never be able to talk to the other campers again."
Isn't it often the little things that make you grouchy, discouraged, frustrated, angry, and make you sink into a bad case of self-pity??
Fiery Darts come suddenly, like arrows shot from a bow.
Fiery darts come from unexpected places. The enemy won't walk up to you and say, "Hello, here I am. I'm planning on throwing a dart at you."
We are told to "take" the shield of faith.
"Taking,” means to receive in order to use it.
Just imagine that a roman soldier was faced with the enemy, so he leans his shield against a tree and goes to meet the enemy on his own. Not very smart right? Yet, as Christians we sort of do that very thing.
Satan attacks us. So we put down our shield and surrender.
~
Answer these:
What power do we (through Christ) have over our spiritual enemies?
(1 John 4:4)
____________________________________________
1 John 4:4 says:
You are of God little children and have over come them (the enemy)
Because he who is in you is greater then he who is in the world.
Why do we have this power?
(1 John 4:4)
_____________________________________________
How do we "activate" the shield of faith?
(1 John 2:14)
_____________________________________________
1 John 2:14 says:
I have written to you fathers because you have known him who is from the beginning.
I have written to you, young men because you are strong and the word of God abides in you and you have overcome the wicked one.
~
Right we need to be in the word of God. We need to read the "instructions" otherwise how can we "use" the shield of faith? God's word helps you stay away from the fiery darts. God's word also helps you quench the fiery darts when they do hit.
You know what? Others will see you "quenching" those darts. Not literally for sure, but they'll see your faith in Christ reflect in your life.
~
REAL LIFE
Your day has been discouraging since the moment you woke up.
Unfortunately you forgot you were sleeping on the top bunk....
So now your leg hurts and the dining hall is serving oatmeal, and you hate oatmeal and.. What do you need to do to quench those fiery darts?
Verse: Philippians 2:3-8
Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit, but in humility consider others better than yourselves. Each of you should look not only to your own interests, but also the interests of others. Your attitude should be the same as that of Christ Jesus: Who being in very nature of God, did not consider equality with God something to be grasped, but made himself nothing, taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness. And being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself and became obedient to death-- even death on a cross!
~
I attended a Christian college that offered a required mid-day chapel service every weekday. I don't remember a lot of what went on in those services, but there was one service that I will never forget. On of our college deans came to speak to us, and it was not a prepared speech. He was there to make and announcement and then present a "mini-sermon" about what he was there to tell us. The announcement? One of the students...one of my friends...had committed suicide.
The moment he made the announcement it felt like all of the blood left my body. It was everything I could do to keep from sobbing. I barely heard a thing the dean said for the rest of the service because I couldn't get over my shock and I couldn't stop asking myself "why? Why did he do it? Why did he give up?"
I still think about him and wonder what made him do it, but I will never have an answer. All I know is that I had been so self-absorbed in my own life at the time of his death that I didn't take the time to set my selfishness aside and be a friend to him.
See, he had made me angry about something, and instead of going to him about it and forgiving him, I continued to defend my own rights in my mind rather than putting a halt to my constant thoughts about what I "deserved" as a person. Not long after his death my thoughts turned from asking myself why he gave up on life and trying to reason why I gave up on him.
I may not have been able to stop my friend from committing suicide, but I did miss my chance to make a difference in his life - all because I was being selfish. Thank the Lord that he has forgiven me for not doing what I was supposed to do, but the memory is something I will have to live with for the rest of my life. A few years ago I couldn't have said this, but now I feel that my memory is something I certainly don't regret. God has used it as a motivation to me to set aside my selfishness, which is so easy to become absorbed in and put the interests of my Christian brothers and sisters before the interests of my own.
~
Don't let selfishness keep you from doing what God has called you to do.
If you're in a situation where you feel like giving up because it’s just not worth trying anymore, give it to God, and let him guide you and tell you what to do about the situation. Even is you have already done all you can do physically to help fellow Christians, you can still pray for them. Don't create a situation you will regret. Keep pressing on and keep allowing God to do what you can't do.
~
Do It:
Write down a list of People that you need to pray for, especially those who have made you angry. Pray for them and watch how your attitude changes and how your selfishness begins to fade. God does miraculous things through prayer; not just with the person that is being prayed for but also for the person praying
~
Pray It:
Dear Lord I know sometimes I can be so selfish. Please forgive me for the times that I have put myself before you and others. It's so hard to think any other way, but I know it's possible because you have commanded me not to be selfish. Help me today to turn over a new leaf and begin giving myself through my actions and through my pray life. Amen.
Isaiah 41:13
For I am the Lord your God who uphold your right hand and says to you "Fear not I will help you"
Matthew 28:20b
Psalm 27:1a
The Lord is my light and salvation, whom shall I fear?
Several years ago the world witnessed one of track and field's most incredible moments during Barcelona Olympics. Britain's Derek Redmond had dreamed all his life of winning a gold metal in the 400-meter race, and he was about to make that dream a reality as the gun sounded in the semifinals. As he rounded the corner into the backstretch with the finish line in sight, he suddenly felt a sharp pain go up the back of his leg. He fell face down onto the track with a torn right hamstring. Sports Illustrated recorded it this way: as the medical attendants were approaching, Redmond fought to his feet. "It was animal instinct,” he would say later. He set out hopping, in a crazed attempt to finish the race. When he reached the stretch, a large man in a T-shirt came out of the stands, hurled aside the security guards and ran to Redmond, embracing him. It was Jim Redmond Derek's father. "You don't have to do this,” he told his weeping son. "Yes I do" Derek replied "Well then!" said Jim "We're gonna do it together" And they did. Fighting off security men the son's head sometimes buried in his fathers shoulder, they stayed in Derek's lane all the way to the end, as the crowed gasped then rose and howled and wept. Derek didn't walk away with the gold medal, but he walked away with the incredible memory of a father who when he saw his son in pain, left his seat to help him finish the race.
Have you ever experienced a big disappointment? We often feel so let down by God when we experience trials and temptations that seem to overwhelm us. When we let out trials become our focus we are guaranteed to feel let down, discouraged, and ready to give up on trying to serve God. That's why God wants us to focus on him rather than the trial, trusting his promises to us rather than trusting our understanding of what we think life is supposed to be like.
The next time you feel discouraged remember what God did for you - just like Derek Redmond's father, God left his place in Heaven to come along side you in the person of his son Jesus Christ. Be confident that God gives you the strength to keep serving him even when things get tough. He won't let you face anything you encounter in life without being right by your side.
~
Do it:
Are you discouraged about something in your life? Commit it to God in prayer and our your heart out to him. Remember that he came down from heaven, in all its glory to be with you. That's how important you are to him. Let him take your discouragement and fill your heart with Joy.
Pray it:
Father I am amazed when I think about what you have given up for me. Thank you for loving me so much. I ask you right now that you would take my discouragement and turn it into Joy. Please give me hope when I feel hopeless. Thank you that I never have to face life alone, and with your strength I can keep going. Amen
Memory Verse: Matthew 3:1-11: Then Jesus was let by the Spirit into the desert to be tempted by the devil. After fasting for forty days and forty nights, he was hungry. The tempter came to him and said, If you are the Son of God, tell these stones to become bread. Jesus answered, It is written: Man does not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God, Then the devil took him to the holy city and had him stand on the highest point of the temple. If you are the Son of God, he said, throw yourself down. For it is written:
He will command his angels concerning you, and they will lift you up in their hands, so that you will not strike your foot against a single stone.
Jesus answered him, It is also written: Do not put the Lord your God to the test.
Again, the devil took him to a very high mountain and showed him all the kingdoms of the world and their splendor. All this I will give you, he said, if you will bow down and worship me.
Jesus said to him, Away from me, Satan! For it is written: Worship the Lord your God, and serve him only.
Then the devil left him, and angels came and attended him.
~
It is really relieving to know that Christ was tempted just like us. He went through every thing we go through. And it is such a blessing to have some one there to go to and share with who knows about all these problems and can relate. Jesus can be out friend when we don't have anyone else to turn to. Isn't that just so comforting?? Temptations are the same as those fiery darts we talked about, but this is an example of Jesus getting some of those fiery darts thrown at him. And he handled them just the way we discussed. With Bible Verses! Quoting scripture to defeat the devil.
Romans 8:38-39;
For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present nor things to come, nor height nor depth, nor any other created thing can separate us from the love that we have in Christ Jesus our Lord.
Colossians 3:12-14
Therefore, as the elect of God, holy and beloved, put on tender mercies, kindness, humility, meekness, long suffering; bearing with one another, and forgiving one another, if anyone has a complaint against another; even as Christ forgave you, so you also must do.
But above all these things put on love, which is the bond of perfection.
Romans 12:9-13
Let love be without hypocrisy. Abhor what is evil. Cling to what is good.
Be kindly affectionate to one another with brotherly love, in honor giving preference to one another; not lagging in diligence, fervent in spirit, serving the Lord; rejoicing in hope, patient in tribulation, continuing steadfastly in prayer; distributing to the needs of the saints, given to hospitality.
1 John 3:18
My little children, let us not love in word or in tongue, but in deed and in truth.
1 Timothy 1:5
Now the purpose of the commandment is love from a pure heart, from a good conscience, and from sincere faith,
1 Corinthians 13:4-7
Love suffers long and is kind; love does not envy; love does not parade itself, is not puffed up; does not behave rudely, does not seek its own, is not provoked, thinks no evil; does not rejoice in iniquity, but rejoices in the truth; bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.
~
God has shown everyone complete unconditional love. God loves you in a way no one will ever be humanly able to. He has shown you forgiveness every single time you’ve messed up, mercy by giving you another chance, help every time you ask, everything you need and have, and will forget all the bad things you have done if you just ASK. Wow I want a friend like that don’t you? Well, here is the good part… YOU DO HAVE A FRIEND LIKE THAT… GOD! Have you ever thought of Him that way, As your friend? Have you ever really taken a few minutes to think about how much true unconditional love he really has for you? Did you also know that God would reeeaaalllyyy like us to follow his example of unconditional love?
This is hands down simply the hardest thing I’ve ever been asked to do. Forgiveness isn’t so bad, caring is simple, giving things to people isn’t that hard, But showing unconditional love? Jesus did it and told us to follow his example but it’s not as easy as it sounds; in fact, it’s something I’ve often struggled with. Now I have to learn to love people the way I love my mother. I love my mother to death; she’s great. She gets on my nerves a lot sometimes flat out drives me crazy. But I always love her and I will never be able to stop. She could literally do ANYTHING and I wouldn’t be able to stop loving her.
With friends and people I’m not so crazy about – this unconditional love is especially difficult. With my family it comes naturally because I live with them and I have to see them daily. With others, it’s usually not too hard for me to just avoid them.
But God has told us not to avoid those people: we are called to love everyone! The guy who stole your bicycle when you were 6 years old, oh and the lady who cut you off on the freeway, not to mention that one person who has told all of that really bad gossip about you… Yeah you’re supposed to love them ALL.
~
Do It:
I know there is someone you are thinking about right now that you haven’t been showing that unconditional love to. Why don’t you take a moment to collect your thoughts and call him or her? I’m sure whoever you are thinking about will feel a lot better when you do. Are there areas in your life that you need to work on to be able to show true unconditional love to everyone? I know we all have some; I lose my temper very easily! I think that all of us together need to start working on changing different things here and there so that we can show the true unconditional love of Jesus to EVERYONE we meet and know.
Pray it:
Dear God I thank you for loving me unconditionally and I pray that with your example I will be able to show others the same kind of love. Work in me a work of true love and not a fake it ‘til you make it love. In Jesus’ heavenly name I pray, amen.
Romans 8:38-39;
For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present nor things to come, nor height nor depth, nor any other created thing can separate us from the love that we have in Christ Jesus our Lord.
Principalities = evil angels, demon rulers
Powers = evil satanic forces
~
Have you ever felt like God doesn't love you anymore? Like he is letting every bad thing possible happen to you? Well, he's not... this verse says that NOTHING can separate us from the love of God! God loves is soooo much! He wouldn't do this to us, for Jeremiah 29:11 says: "For I know the plans I have for you" declares the Lord, "plans for welfare and not for calamity (great misfortune) for a future and a hope."
See! He doesn’t have great misfortune planned for our lives!
I don't know why such bad things happen to us all... its just life. God isn't doing this to us. This is probably the devil wanting to ruin your life. Who knows... just don't give up and rely on God! Cast all your cares upon Jesus because he cares for you! (1st Peter 5:17) He doesn't want you to carry around any burden just give it all to him and you will feel much better.
~
Do It:
Do you have burdens that you would like to get rid of?? Make a list of these burdens and then pray for God to take them lay then on the feet of Jesus. After you say that prayer (you can use the on below) rip up the list into little pieces and throw them away. After this you have to worry no longer because God is going to work things out.
Pray it:
Dear God, I have so many things going wrong in my life I lay all my burdens on the feet of Jesus. Lord take my burdens and my pain and give me joy and make my life whole again. In the name of Jesus I pray,
Amen.
1 Samuel 16:7:
The Lord said to Samuel, " Do not look at his appearance or at the height of his stature, because I have rejected him, for God sees not as man sees, for man looks at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart."
John 7:24
"Do not judge according to outward appearance, but judge with righteous judgment."
Matthew 6:25
For this reason I say to you, do not be anxious for your life, as to what you shall eat, or what you shall drink; nor for your body, as to what you shall put on. Is it not life more than food, and the body more than the clothing?
~
Do you ever look in the mirror and just go "yuk,” Do you ever wish you were skinnier or had a prettier face? Do your "friends" criticize about the way you look? Well all of these things are wrong! When I look in the mirror Ii thank God for what he has given me. I may not be very pretty but I am still thankful! And you should be too. About the skinnier thing, well, a lot of people wish they were skinnier. But you know what? You don't need to be. Because God doesn't see your outward appearance. And your friends don't either. That is if they are truly your friend. I know you all have heard that saying "It's not the outside that counts but the inside that does." and it is very true!
See, I live in the fattest city in America and a lot of people think like this. And it is pathetic! People going around hating the way they look and hiding themselves from the public just cuz they are a little over weight.
I knew a guy who weighed around 200 lbs. he was 14, and people were always calling him fat. But I hung around him even though not many people did. Because I looked at his heart and not his stomach. A lot of people know me for looking past the faces. And if you knew me personally you would know that.
So the next time you look in the mirror thank God for the way you look.
~
Do It:
Go to the mirror... look into your eyes and nothing else. For the eyes are the windows to the soul. So what do u see? I will tell you what God sees; he sees a beautiful/handsome and wonderful person. A Caring and loving person.
Pray it:
Dear God I thank you for this day and for the body and the face that you have given me. Please help me to look past the face and through the heart. Thank you for looking at my heart and not my appearance. In the name of Jesus I pray,
Amen.
John 16:23b
If you shall ask the father for anything, he will give it to you in my name.
Matthew 7:7
Ask and it shall be given to you, seek and you shall find, knock and the door shall be opened unto you.
~
God is so good. He provides everything we need and all you have to do is ask, and be good! You need to obey God's commandments because "..Whatever we ask we receive from Him because we keep his commandments and do the things that are pleasing in his site." (1 John 3:22)
And even more likely if you pray without ceasing, and in everything give thanks. (1 Thess. 5:17)
I think it is just really cool that all we have to do it ask! It’s awesome! Just keep at it, have faith in God, and see what happens.
Philippians 3:14
I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus.
~
During my freshman year in high school, my school had an awesome varsity basketball team. In fact, every team we played was blown away because we defeated them by so many points. It never ceased to amaze me at how hard the other teams we played tried to overcome their deflect. Our opponents could already taste their loss, yet they continued to throw out all of their desperate attempts to make it look like a defeat of our team was on the horizon. Some teams even started to make a comeback, but the final outcome always went our way because we held our ground.
Can you imagine the amount of confidence my school's basketball team experienced? They couldn't grow careless in the game so as not to give up any territory, but, on the other hand, they practically were watching the clock, waiting to claim their victory. All the real pressure was on the other team.
It's incredible to be playing a game that you know you have won, and the cool thing is, that's the position God has put us in as Christians. Jesus has already defeated the Satan for us. The battle is won, but there is still time on the clock. Therefore, we must hold our ground and continue doing what God had called us to do, but we can take comfort in knowing that every blow of the devil is just a desperation maneuver on his part. During trials the devil tries his hardest to blur our vision so that we cannot see the end. Yet in the heat of our trails, there can still be joy in our heart because we already know who wins!
The pressure is really on the enemy, not you, because his time is running out. If you're in the heat or your trials, don't give up. In Jesus you have the victory! Do you need to step forward and claim your prize?
~
Pray it:
Heavenly Father, thank you so much that, in You, I am a winner. I don't have to keep trying to win these battles because you have already defeated the devil and given me the victory over the trials and temptations that I face. Help me to take hold of that victory and live confidently as a winner, not a looser. Thank you for defeating the devil for me!
In Jesus name,
Amen.
Romans 8:28
And we know that God works things together for the good to those who love God, to those who are called according to his purpose.
~
I am not sure what to say about this verse but I just really wanted to share it with you all. I have kept this verse in my head for quite some time now, and this verse is so true!! And every time I get in a situation where I want to do one thing and then something comes up, I just remember this verse!! For example: I wanted to go to this concert thing called "Festival Con Dios" and I am also going to be in a talent show. Well I found out that the concert and the dress rehearsal for the talent show are on the same day, well I was really upset. But I remembered this verse, and then I prayed about it. The next day I was looking at the times of the talent show stuff, and found out that the rehearsal was in the morning!! And since the concert didn't start till 3:30 I was going to make it!! I was so happy! So now I know that God does really work things out for the good. =)
1 Peter 2:21
To this you were called, because Christ suffered for you, leaving you an example that you should follow in his steps.
~
The other day I read that each year teens spend 1,200 hours in class... and 1,500 hours in front of the TV. If you thought you spent a lot of time in school, the statistic should call for a major reality check! What's worse, I recently read a quote from a 17-year-old boy that reflects the thoughts of a majority of the population today. He was talking about a famous actor and how much he desired to be like that actor. "His flawless style, good looks and moneymaking talent seem to define what's cool," the boy said.
When you spend so much time in front of the TV, at the movies, or with the wrong crowd, it's only natural that you are going to start molding your standards for you like according to those who you spend the most time with, whether it's you "real life" friends, or the people you see one TV. After all, if spending quality time with God through prayer and Bible study makes you more like God, what do you think will happen when you spend "quality time" with the wrong things? Being influenced by what you devote your time to is an unavoidable chain of events.
Knowing this should make us want to evaluate how we are setting our standards. Are you determining what's OK by who you hang out with or what you see on TV? Are you modeling yourself to be more like you favorite actor, actress or musician? It's easy to make ourselves feel better about not being Christ-like when we align ourselves with others who aren't like Christ.
Our call to be like Christ and set our standards according to how He lived is a requirement, and, thank God, it's also a goal we can reach. We know this simply because God would never ask us to do something that we are not able to do. The desire to be like someone other than God is not a goal we can reach and it will only lead to a lifetime of frustration and disappointment. God simply didn't create us to be like anyone other than him. If you don't give up on your pursuit to be like God, take heart and confidence in the fact that you have set a goal you can reach - a goal that is guaranteed to come with the additional benefits of experiencing true peace, happiness, and fulfillment.
~
Do it:
Think about the following questions: where do you spend most of your time? Who do you allow to set the standards for your life? If God is not a priority in your life and he is not your standard, it's time to think about making a change. Allow him to help you make the change!
Pray it:
Oh God, sometimes I get so involved in what's going on in the world around me that I start to loose sight of you and your standards. Please forgive me for the times I have tried to be like anyone other than you. Give me the ability to reach the goal of being Christ like, and thank you that this is a goal that is within my reach. Help me to experience Your presence in my life like never before.
Amen.
Ephesians 1:4
Just as he chose us in Him before the foundation of the world that we should be holy and without blame before him in love.
John 3:16
For God so loved the world that he gave his only son that whosoever believes in him will not perish but has everlasting life.
Romans 6:23
For the wages (punishment) of sin is death but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.
~
Because God loves you so much he didn't want you to take the punishment for your sin. Before you were even born, God provided a way for you to be saved! He sent his only son, the lord Jesus Christ to take the punishment you deserve.
Jesus was born as a baby and he grew up. He lived a PERFECT life!! He didn't sin at all. But when the time was right, he had to take the punishment for all of OUR sins.
He was brutally beaten and spat on, mocked, judged wrongly, he even had to carry his own cross that he would die on, up the hill. And then he hung on it for quite some time until he was finally dead and then they wrapped him in cloths and buried him in a tomb. On the third day after he was buried, he rose from the grave to prove that he was right, and that every one had judged him wrong. Every one felt really bad that they had doubted and many turned to him.
And now it is your turn.
When you trust Christ as your savior all your sins are forgiven and washed away by the blood that was shed when he died. And the sins are forgiven and forgotten. God has a place for you in Heaven and he wants you to take it. A lot of you already have, and you are guaranteed that place in Heaven with God. This is an opportunity that you cannot pass up.
God sent his son to do this so that you could be with him in heaven!! Because if he hadn't we would all have to pay the price and go to hell!! But when you become a Christian all your sins are forgiven and the weight of them lifted off of your shoulders. You will be forgiven for EVERYTHING!! So if you would like to receive this FREE gift, just admit to God that you are a sinner and that you believe that Jesus came and died just for YOU. All you have to do is say the following prayer and then the Holy Spirit will come in and guide you as you go.
~
Do it:
Sit down and think about what sins you have been committing. E-mail me if you have any questions, or talk to your youth leader or pastor. Or you can even ask your parents. After you get things clear make a decision - hopefully it is to accept this free gift, but after you do say the following prayer.
Pray it:
Lord Jesus, I have done so many bad things in my life, and I need the blood of Jesus to wash them away. Lord I accept your free gift of eternal life. I know what Jesus did for me on the cross and Jesus I thank you for it. I want to be with you in Heaven when I die and I want to live a good life, so please come into my life. I pray this in Jesus name
Amen
