SOUTH
AND CENTRAL AMERICA - SHORT
INTRODUCTION AND HISTORY
There was some
activity in the Cayman Islands with a small league being played. However
their website has subsequently not being functioning and we are unawares
of their current status. In other parts of Central America or the
Caribbean there are no known clubs at present.
One of the oldest associations
in the world was the Federacion de Argentina de Hurling which existed
early in the twentieth century. There were several teams in Buenos Aires
at the time and they competed in a league. Unfortunately this federation
disappeared during WWII when supplies became unavailable. However, quite
recently, the Hurling Club of Buenos Aires (now a rugby club) has begun
training young students and hopefully the resurgence of Gaelic Football in
the country can lead to that of Hurling too.
There are no
currently no clubs in the other South American countries at present.
