AUSTRALASIA
- A SHORT HISTORY
Australian Rules
football is said to be a descendant of Gaelic Football and the many
similarities in the games allow for the annual International Rules Series
between Ireland and Australia. However, Gaelic Football is a big game on
its own merit in the country and there are at least 49 official clubs
there. Of course this has been helped by huge Irish community in the
country but nowadays it has become an Australian game.
In New Zealand there are six clubs known to
play in Auckland, administered by the Auckland
GAA.
Asia has been quite
a surprise in Gaelic Games circles and hosts an annual competition known
as the Asian Gaelic Games. Gaelic
Games are played in several Asian countries.
