Season Nine

Cherished

"When's the last time we had a coffee break?"

"They did a 180 so fast we got whiplash."

DWB

Bait

"That's not baby powder in there."

"C'mon, hump, time to take some snapshots."

"Wearing a badge doesn't make you a cop."

"I know a couple guys who sold coke in the 80's. Now it's Cuban cigars and they didn't even have to change their rolodex."

Curtis: "You mid if we take a look at your file on him?"
Rivera: "For what?"
Curtis: "Known associates, relatives -- you know, Police Procedure 101?"

Exiled: A Law & Order Movie

Logan: "I guess meeting ex-partners is a lot like meeting ex-wives."
Curtis: "Actually, he likes you better than his ex-wife."

Flight

(about obtaining fatal virus from a bio-supply house): "It's easier than getting a gun."

"Why are you covering your ass? You having an affair?"

"C'mon, a single woman investing the best years of her life with a married man. Maybe she got tired of waiting for you to dump your wife."

Agony

Scrambled

Van Buren: "My sister couldn't have a baby. They tried for years. It was really painful."
Rey: "Well, maybe she wasn't meant to have a baby."
Van Buren (icily): "Excuse me?"
Rey: "Nobody's promised a happy ending." BBBB

"These place don't even need licenses, Lennie. Barber shops need licenses."

Curtis: "These scientists... if they can do it, they do it. Never think if they should do it... experimenting with embryos, experimenting with fetuses-"
Briscoe: "Come on, Rey. If some doctor could cure your wife with cells from a fetus-"
Curtis: It wouldn't be right."
Briscoe: "Yeah, but you think Deborah would agree?"
Curtis: "Oh, you wanna make this personal, Lennie? Let's say your daughter stored some eggs before she died. You could still be a grandfather. Does that sound good to you?"

"Is that freaky enough for you - she has a baby after she's dead?"

Venom

(in front of a lawyer): "Make sure I get it right, counselor. Hey, Dennis, you're under arrest_ "

Punk

"Crimmons is blowing smoke up our ass."

"Well, you know, there's all kinds of hotspots - JC Penney, K Mart. . . "

"That's funny, his mother told us we'd find his ugly, lazy butt working on his piece of crap car."

Rey (with disgust): "Parole!"
Lennie: "Gotta give these guys a reason to behave in jail."
Rey: "How about guards, solitary, privileges you can revoke?"
Lennie: "So in Rey's world nobody gets a second chance."
Rey: "They blew their chance. I'm with Pataki - no minimum, no maximum crap. A guy gets ten years, he does ten years."

True North

Hate

"You better sit your ass down, kid. My house, my rules, now sit down!"

"The drug problem has an upside, huh, Lennie?"

"Does it make you feel like a big man having your mommy lie for you like that?"

Philip: "Derek's my white brother!"
Curtis: "I'm sure he'll come visit you every other Sunday."

"Can't we just skip the formalities and shoot Willis?" BBBB

Ramparts

"Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band. . . you still have an eight-track, don't you, Lennie?"

(watching a tape of a 60's protest demonstration): "Nothing but a helmet and a nightstick."

Haven

(about Affirmative Action) "You wouldn't have liked my answers. When I applied to the department, when the questionnaire asked for my race, I put 'None of the above'."

Hunters

"Welcome to the wild, wild west."

Briscoe: (looking around a bail bonds office) "Busy. You know I once had an idea about putting my money into a place like this."
Curtis: "So you can have a financial interest in keeping the crime rate up? That makes sense for a cop."

Sideshow (HLOTS Crossover, Part One)

(to Lennie): "Sorry, I missed the 'do not disturb' sign on your beeper."

Det. Sheppard: "Where's Munch?" Rey: "He's in the bedroom with Lennie. Those two can't keep their hands off each other."

Det. Sheppard: "You know what my mother says?"
Rey: "What's that?"
Sheppard: "Most men cheat. And the ones who don't are just afraid to."
Rey: "So adulterers or cowards, huh? You have the same high opinion of men as your mother?"

"Just because I opened your door doesn't mean I'm flirting with you, Rene. It's just my upbringing."

(to Munch): "John, John. . . perseverance - that's what makes a great detective."

Sideshow (HOMICIDE Crossover, Part Two)

(paraphrasing a suicide note): "The usual white-boy angst - ' I gave her my heart and trusted her with it but now I see it was all a lie' - yada, yada, yada."

"A liar in the White House? Gee, what are the chances?"

Disciple

"I've been going to Mass since I was old enough to sit still."

(after visiting a witness whose kids are home with the flu): "Remind me to buy flowers for Deborah tonight."

"All right, all right, take it easy."

Harm

"Just some parents I'd like to slap some sense into."

Rey: "The guy was some kind of lawyer."
Lennie: "Doesn't mean he deserved to get beat, Rey. . . hey, this guy wasn't just a lawyer, Rey, he's a divorce lawyer."
Rey (suppressing a smile): "Doesn't mean he deserves to get beat, Lennie."

Witness: "If I lose my job over this. . . "
Rey: "We'll give you a good reference."

Shield

"Your car was parked there forty minutes - you a slow reader?"

"You really picked the wrong day to lie to the police."

"Your fingerprints were there - your underwear was there with a nice, fresh presidential DNA sample."

"Lennie, I hate to state the obvious but we're talking about a cop."

Cop accused of murder: "I can't believe this."
Rey "That makes two of us."

Juvenile

Tabula Rasa

Woman (to Lennie): "You don't keep up with music, huh?"
Rey: "He stopped with Bobby Darin."

Lennie: "Boy, I'd hate somebody to trace me by what I read."
Rey: "You read, Lennie?"

Empire

"We're not allowed above 42nd Street."

Ludlow: "So does your wife know that I'm not a 78 year old grandmother?"
Curtis: "Yeah, I told her."
Ludlow: "And she doesn't mind that we're here for the night?"
Curtis: "She knows better. I know better."

Ludlow: "I'm attracted to you, Rey."
Curtis: "You'll get over it."

Curtis: "Deborah and I know what could happen."
Ludlow: "This may sound dumb, but how do you live with that?"
Curtis: "We pray a lot."
Ludlow: "And do you think about what you'll do after-"
Curtis: "No. Just concentrate on the time we have together. I just hope if and when it does come that uh, it's peaceful."

Curtis: "The evidence is good!"
McCoy: "The girl says that's not all that's tainted."
Curtis: "What else?"
McCoy: "She says you two have a relationship."
Van Buren: "She says you talked about your wife, about the two of you."
Curtis: "What?!"
McCoy: "About a future together, if and when your wife's illness leads to her untimely death."
Curtis: "No, no, this woman is crazy, I mean she's twisting everything around!"
McCoy: "Then take the stand and untwist it, Detective. Before Specter's lawyers put Katrina Ludlow's version before the jury."
Curtis: "And have my wife hear all that crap? Forget it! Let her take the stand. McCoy, you show them what a psychopathic liar she is!"
McCoy: "I'd be happy to, but I can't do it without you."

Van Buren: "...With women, it's not only did you jam it to some stray, it's did you open your heart to her, or even want to. It's the emotional betrayal we can't stand."
Curtis: "I didn't betray anything!"

Defense: "Didn't you say that you knew better?"
Curtis: "Something like that."
Defense: "You knew better than to be alone in a room, in a motel, with a young, attractive woman-"
Curtis: "That's - that's not what I meant."
Defense: "Did you complain that your wife, your poor dear wife, was a burden to you?"
Curtis: "No!"
Defense: "That you just prayed that she would go in peace."
Curtis: "No!"
Defense: "That her moment would come soon."
Curtis: "No!"
Defense: "Detective! Didn't you tell Miss Ludlow that you hoped your wife would go in peace?! (pause) Yes or no, Detective?"
Curtis: "My wife has Multiple Sclerosis! She's in a lot of pain and it's getting worse. What I told Miss Ludlow, what I meant was (pause), that if the condition got worse I just didn't want her to - No, she's suffered enough already."
Defense: "Is that a yes, Detective?"
Curtis: "I love my wife! More than my own life! Now I betrayed her trust once, just once, but with her love and with God's help-"
Defense: "Your Honor would you direct the witness to answer the question?"
Curtis: "I haven't been unfaithful to her since! I know better! My mistake was trusting Katrina Ludlow. So yes, I've made mistakes as a man. But as a cop, no sir. I did not tamper with that evidence."

Ambitious

"If that's the future of the mob, we got nothing to worry about."

Admissions

Lennie: "Didn't want to mess up the library. . . must be a book lover."
Rey: "University campus. . . that narrows it down."

Dr. Clemente: "I did not kill. . . "
Rey: "Yeah, we get that a lot."

Refuge (1)

(Upon learning that ear patterns are like fingerprints): "No wonder Evander was so upset."BBBB

"We're the Jacksons. I'm Jermaine, this is Tito. Now shut up."

Suspect: "Y esa sangre de indio - de su padre?"
Curtis: "Tu madre."
(Translation: "That Indian-blood (euphemism for low-class) - that from your father?" "Your mother.")

"You move, you die! You understand?"

"Hey, hey, hey, hey."

"You better get your brain in gear, man."

Suspect: "You think all Russians are crooks."
Rey: "Just the crooked ones."

Refuge (2)

(After a bomb is discovered in the 27th precinct basement)
Van Buren: "What time was it set for?"
Bomb expert: "8 p.m."
Briscoe: "Well, I wasn't planning to stay late anyway."
Curtis: "I was."

Suspect (when a search warrant is executed) "Of all the bull. . . "
Rey: "Yeah, we get that a lot."

(after answering a suspect's cell phone and hearing that the suspect's lawyer has also been arrested) "That's gonna hurt business, yeah?"

Briscoe: (as Curtis comes in late, looking tired) "How's Deborah?"
Curtis: "Tell you later."

Curtis: "She can't even hold a toothbrush, LT. It's gotten really, really bad."
Van Buren: "OK. I'll square it with the Borough Chief. (pause) I'm really sorry, Rey."
Curtis: "It's just that I not only want to be there for her, I - I want to be there with her."
(Van Buren gives him a hug and he leaves her office)
Curtis: "OK, well, that's it."
Briscoe: "Yeah. Give my love to Deborah, OK?"
Curtis: "Oh, you'll come visit. The girls'll wanna see their Uncle Lennie."
Briscoe: (putting his hand on Curtis' shoulder) "Listen. Any time, I don't care what time it is, just - pick up the damn phone, OK?"
(Curtis looks at him for a moment, nods, leaves.)
