STUDENT RESPONSIBILITIES

Students are required to read their academic catalog and other information carefully and refer to them regularly. Students are encouraged, for their own complete understanding, to become familiar with all I.I.A. policies.

Class Attendance:
Students are expected to attend all classes. It is the student’s responsibility to notify the instructor prior to class if they are going to be absent due to extenuating circumstances.

Attendance is required at all of the bi-monthly Inner-Light Seminars, annual “student weekend gathering” , and other academic level activities for course credits.

Correspondence and Online Students can opt to come onsite for the seminars or request an audio or video tape at cost, whichever is available. Your class schedule will indicate when these seminars will be held and the location. If a schedule change occurs you will be notified immediately.

Weekend gatherings such as the annual retreat or mini-mesters will require on site attendance, which may occur 2 to 3 times per year.

Students cannot miss more than three class days during the academic year. A student who fails to meet minimum attendance requirements is considered as making unsatisfactory academic progress. The student must meet with the I.I.A. Board of Directors to discuss and develop a plan to receive a satisfactory academic progress status. The Board may recommend dismissal and dismissal can be appealed to the I.I.A. President/Dean whose decision is final. Appeals must be made in writing and be within 30 days of notification of dismissal. Interruption of course work and attendance as a result of extenuating circumstances will be handled on a case by case basis by the Dean. In the case of correspondence course students and online students, missed attendance will be considered as late papers, quizzes, exams, etc. not received by due date more than three times. Notwithstanding, when these papers and exams are due and are not received on time, these students must notify the school in advanced to avoid a failing grade or dismissal.

Other Activities:
Seminars, workshops, “student weekend gatherings” and other activities shall be planned during the course of the year to respond to the needs of our students. Details of those events shall be announced during the course.

Postponement Policy:
A student who has applied to the Institute by completing an application and submitting a non-refundable application fee of $50, can postpone entrance into the program until the next enrollment. The application and application fee payment will be kept on file for one calendar year after the application and the application fee has been submitted. Student must submit a new application and pay another application fee after one calendar year has ended.

Re-Admission After Dismissal:
A student may be re-admitted into the Institute For Inner Awareness through the process of an individual re-admission interview. The student must submit a letter to the Dean of I.I.A. requesting re-admission . The decision of the Dean will be final. A student will not be readmitted earlier than six months after dismissal.

All financial obligations to I.I.A. must be met prior to re-admission.

Visitors:
Visitors may audit the I.I.A. Classes with prior permission of the Instructor.

Graduation Ceremony:
I.I.A. will conduct graduation ceremonies once each academic calendar year, unless otherwise notified. There is an additional graduation assessment fee of $200. All outstanding financial obligations must be paid in full before the final and/or Oral Board Exam in order to graduate or receiving any certification from I.I.A.

STUDENT CONDUCT
  • I.I.A.. will provide a learning atmosphere in which students are encouraged to demonstrate both awareness and embodiment of a higher consciousness. Personal integrity, honesty and respect for self and others are required at all class times, seminars, workshops, and retreats.
  • Students must exercise responsibility in meeting all tuition and fee obligations to I.I.A.

  • Teamwork, self-motivation and creativity also form the basis for student growth and success.

  • Students are expected to maintain high levels of conduct. As Ministers and professionals-in-training, students are required to:

  • Accept responsibility for class attendance, homework, workshop-retreat participation and financial obligations

  • Act and dress appropriately

  • Treat other students and instructors with appropriate dignity and respect

  • The curriculum is designed with a specific intention to the flow of the program. Each of the classes builds on the previous term’s lessons.

Student Behaviors Leading to Dismissal

  • A serious lack of cooperation in the classroom setting, other I.I.A. activities as well as academic assignments and projects

  • Disrespect toward classroom instructor(s) and fellow students

  • A demonstrated lack of commitment and professionalism toward the career path chosen

  • Repeated incidents of bad checks or breaches in tuition payment schedule

A student dismissed for the above reasons may appeal the decision to the Dean of I.I.A. Appeals must be in writing and received within 30 days of dismissal notification. Decision by the Dean is final.

Academic Standards & Progress

A student who completes a term with a grade below 70% is considered not making satisfactory progress. He/she must meet with the Board of Directors who will decide, with the student, or devise a plan to allow the student to attain satisfactory academic progress. The student must adhere to the plan. The student must attain academic standards of progress by the end of the next term. Decisions by the Board of Directors may be appealed to the Dean. Appeals must be in writing and must be received within 30 days of being notified by the Board of Directors. The decision of the Dean is final. This standard applies to all students – onsite, online, or correspondence.

EVALUATION AND GRADING

A = 90 - 100%  Exceptional:  contributed generously to class discussions, completed all assignment on time, demonstrated exceptional grasp of subject and/or skills being taught.

B = 80 - 89%   Good: participated in an above average manner in class discussions,     completed 90% of assignments on time, demonstrated good grasp of subject               and/or skills being taught.

C = 70 - 79%   Average: maintained a positive attitude throughout the course and has demonstrated a satisfactory grasp of the subject matter and/or skill being taught.

D = 60 - 69%   Failing

Incomplete:  The grade of “I” (incomplete) may be assigned only upon request of the student and agreement of the instructor.  It is given to a student who has been in attendance and has been doing passing work until the remaining two weeks of the term, when extenuating circumstances have made it impossible for the student to complete the course requirements on time.  The student must complete the work and have the “I” changed to a grade by end of the next term in which the student is enrolled.  Failure to complete the work will result in the “I” grade being changed to an “F”
