Who said that Girls can't rhyme?

Definitely not me! I love female vocalists—especially rappers. Who said that Christians can't rhyme?

ATTENTION: THE UNIVERSE IS WRONG AGAIN!

Christian Rap is no longer "christian rap". Many many props to CARMAN, but the industry and better yet, the ministry, has moved on. The message is still the Love of Jesus, but the form would make Darwin giddy. The new Christian Rap, Rapcore, and Hip-hop industries are (as they say) OFF THE HOOK.

We've got crippling rhymes, laced tracks and slave master beats. You can't help but listen, and when the beats say "shake what your Poppa gave you" YOU MUST OBEY.

I did a little experiment:

We're all familiar with Six Flags America Theme Parks. They are what makes the summer fun. After spending a whole day at the park, I left a little early to get back to the cooler in my car and away from the $3 12 Oz. Coke cans inside. As I approached my 15 PASSENGER, HUNTER GREEN, ECONO-LINE VAN with the "GSUSPWR" license plate, I got an Idea. I looked around the parking lot. In about 15 minutes, Thousands of people and fun-loving families were about to walk right past my vehicle to get to theirs. It just so happened that I had very. VERY. Very. Loud speakers.

And so I blasted. After trying a few here and there, I landed three songs that are sure to get people "moving they were:

Golden Motorcycle - Pigeon John

Wrapped Up (remix) - Dawkins & Dawkins feat. T-bone

The Real Hip-Hop - T Cleazy and Quick Mickey Flannigan (DJ)

The above are listed in order of crowd appreciation. As you are free to learn for yourself, Golden Motorcycle is a light, loose, addictive song. It meshes hip-hop, Latin and house influences resulting in a wonderful party song that's fun to dance to. As far as Christian clubs go, it's a sure nominee for an anthem. I played it about seventeen times, and it was widely appreciated. People of all races, ages, and the Hindu family with the saris on, enjoyed it. Nobody walked by without changing up their step or outright busting a funky move...my homey. The funniest part was that NOBODY KNEW IT WAS CHRISTIAN. My favorite was when one kid (18-21) in particular yanked the cigarette out of his mouth mid-drag to talk to his friend:

"Hey man, I love this, this is that new Eminem song!"

That was pretty hilarious.

Another guy hung out by the van and asked Sheldon (my brother) if we were selling CDs—because he was interested.

I'm not going to describe the other songs in full, but "Wrapped Up" is a fast paced R&B song with a rap remixed into the last verse.

"The Real Hip-hop" is rap with a sing-songy chanted chorus:

Take me back to the real Hip-hop/ The DJs in the back where the beats don't stop/ graffiti artists/ b-boys and emcees/ bring back the real hip-hop please/

A good many Christian verses this year have been devoted to the same plea; everyone's upset about the obvious debacle and deviance from what was becoming a steady culture. Despite their devotion to what's now called 'old-skool' Christian Emcees are some of the most experimental and innovative beatmakers and lyricists in the Ether.
