Lake Tahoe is ideal for mountain biking in the summer, and skiing in the winter. So far, I have had the pleasure of skiing at Heavenly, Squaw Valley, and Northstar. Teddy is a wonderfully skilled skiier who likes speed, just like with his cars and his mountain bikes. I prefer to enjoy the scenery and make my way down the mountain under as much control as possible. (In other words, slowly!)

People from Southern California, like myself, would have never ever heard of Great America unless they spent some siginificant time up in Northern California. That's because, this amusement park is by no means comparable to Disneyland, Knotts Berry Farm, nor Six Flags Magic Mountain. Yet it's still fun to visit on a nice summer's day and Top Gun isn't half-bad.

Magic Mountain is where the real roller coasters are. Their newest attraction, the Goliath, climbs 26 stories, plunges 255-feet, at a near-vertical 61�, into a 120-foot tunnel in total darkness, and and then races to speeds of 85 miles per hour! The ride goes so fast that you nearly black out from the sustained G-forces! The last time I went, we rode it three times!

The Black and White Ball of San Francisco, is a black-tie affair that raises money for the S.F. Symphony. The block party event takes place in San Francisco's Civic Center, with many of the governmental buildings open for dining, dancing, and general partying. My favorite scene was at the newly renovated City Hall, where the S.F. Symphony played at the top of the staircase and attendees waltzed to the music below.

Las Vegas sits on the border between California and Nevada. Teddy and I usually gamble $40 at most, before we get tired of losing our money. The rest of the time, we compete for stuffed animal prizes at Circus Circus, play video games at New York New York, gorge ourselves at the cheap all-you-can-eat buffets, and ride the roller coasters of all the different hotels. (New York New York's Manhattan Express and Stratosphere's Big Shot are the best ones.)

Teddy's favorite meal - steaks grilled on the grill I got him for his birthday, baked potato, broccoli, and good champagne! The little guys swimming in the background are Teddy's turtles. He has four turtles, and the largest one is named Buddy.
