Free and Fair Elections Must Be Decided by All Political Parties, Said Nai Tun Thein

Chairperson of Mon National Democratic Front (MNDF), Nai Tun Thein, commented that if the military government wishes to decide for new general free and fair elections, all political parties in the country must discuss and decided about it in the coming National Convention.

He also commented that currently the military government, SPDC, moves forward to hold the National Convention without the political parties’ mandate, which won 1990 elections and then nationwide general elections.

If the military government holds the elections, he questions “I would like to ask them whether it (elections) benefit the country, or whether they think for their own profit only.”

“We UNA (United Nationalities Alliance) accepts that if NLD and other political parties participate in the National Convention and all political parties need to decide for the new elections”, added by Nai Tun Thein.

He also said that he did not clear very well about the Thai government approach for democracy roadmap and general elections.

MNDF Chairman Nai Tun Thein a prominent political figure and his party won 5 seats in 1990 general elections. He also dissatisfied for the roadmap applied by the military government.

He also asked that UN National Security should know what current political situation in Burma and the pressure from Europe governments and United States government is still necessary.

One MNDF prominent leader Nai Ngwe Thein and two MPs, Dr. Min Kyi Win and Dr. Min Soe Lin are still in prisons among over 1000 political prisoners in various notorious prisons in countrywide.
