Dear God:

Someone I love died today.  Why do people have to die? Why did my Grandpa have to die?

Dear Annie:

Someone I love started a brand new life with me today.  He looks different from the last time that you saw him.  He's bright and shiny, just like a star, because he is filled with the light, warmth and enrgy of heaven.  There is something about him that you will recognize though.  He still shines brightly with the special love that he has for you.

You asked me a very hard, but a very good, question.  Why do people have to die?  How can I help you begin to understand?  Hmmm...let's try caterpillars and butterflies.  You know that butterflies spend the first part of their lives as caterpillars.  They crawl along tree branches and the along the ground, eating and growing, getting ready to spin cocoons.  They need those cocoons to change into beautiful butterflies and continue their lives.  People are kind of like caterpillars.  Oh, not many of them are green or furry, but they all spend their lives eating, playing, working and growing in their bodies, in their minds and in their spirits.  That's the very best part....when they choose to be good friends with my Son, Jesus.  They do all these things to get ready for the next part of their lives, the part that they live in heaven, with me.  Just like caterpillars pass through the cocoon stage to become butterflies, people pass through the death stage to become part of the light and love of heaven.  I know that this is very hard to understand since, unlike caterpillars, you can't see the change in people after they die.  Maybe it will help if you look around and think of all the peopl that you see as furry, tickling caterpillars who need a cocoon, called death, to turn into the most beautiful, heavenly butterflies that I ever created
