Swing Devils of the Palouse, Inc. is the 501(c)(3) non-profit corporation that plans and produces all of the Swing Devils events. Offshoot Clubs by the name of Swing Devils exist on both the University of Idaho, and Washington State Campuses, as well as with the Moscow High School. Members have promoted our mission all across the nation, and literally, around the world!!
This organization sponsors Swing Out Nowhere, an annual swing dance workshop and event that members of ISU's Swing Club have attended in the past. It is a remarkable event!
Not near Seattle - Just south of Spokane - Three miles from Nowhere! Their mission statement: To eat, drink, breath, and live swing. Well drink other things too, but "Jitter Sauce" is swing in a bottle. This group is closely related to Moscow's Swing Devils (see above), and members from both groups can frequently be found dancing together--and competing with each other!
Giselle is a jazz and swing dance instructor, performer and DJ. We met her at Swing Out Nowhere '05 (hosted by Swing Devils, see above). We have been working on getting enough money to bring her and a partner to Pocatello to teach at a workshop for us. She is also involved in Girl Jam, USA (see below).
Girl Jam, USA is a nationwide organization that holds workshops focused on women dancers in Seattle, LA, Minneapolis, and Denver. Giselle Anguizola (see above) is often involved in planning and teaching at these annual workshops.
We are hoping to have a group of dancers of all levels to attend at least one of these workshops. If you're interested, please contact us and let us know!
Swing Shift is a 6-member band, whose musical experience includes blue grass, country, Andean folk, blues, R&B, rock, classical, and of course, jazz. Three of the members also perform with the Mike Banks Jazz Quartet.
The MBJQ, founded in 2004, is a local Eastern Idaho ensemble that defines contemporary music with its soulful treatment of classic jazz, kicked-up funk, rock and hard-hitting blues. The bands founder, vocalist, and bassist, Mike Banks, headlines the band in concert with saxophonist virtuoso Shawn Beebe. Keyboardist Terrell Merkley and drummer/guitarist John Anderson provide strong, supple support to Banks smooth, entertaining vocals and Beebes airy, athletic solos. Whether crooning to a silky ballad like One in a Million You or delivering the funky I Feel Good, Banks connects with the audience and creates frenzies. Beebes sax sings out with edge and a meticulously manicured tone. This foursome reflects the true heart of jazz: no nonsense, straight-ahead but not strait-laced and willing to take a good-natured romp. Together they share an imaginative interplay that is immediately appealing. The MBJQ is legitimizing music in eastern Idaho.
